Disambiguation

[edit]

There is no valid article linking to this one, while Zamba (music) has 6 (as of July 23, 2006). Therefore, I'm moving this article to Zamba mythology), following the format of Paris (mythology) and Phoenix (mythology). I will also move Zamba (music) to Zamba. Thanks. Excerpts from a book entitled: "Wisdom and Initiation in Gabon: A Philosophical Analysis of Fang Tales"

[edit]
These are tales from another Beti people; the M'Fang.
  • "Zamba , or Nzame , the god who created man , or Mebegue , the god of gods , live in the heavens"
  • "(Zamba, Nzame, Ntondobo) is in heaven and man is on earth."
Zamba, Nzame and Ntondobo(no Wikipedia article!) appear to be synonyms.
  • " From the creation of the world (“In the beginning, the Sun and the Moon were husband and wife”), man not only acquired all the riches, including that of the woman, he is, additionally, fertile, that is, he is ..."
  • "For the Fang , human relations are identical to relationships between the Sun , the Moon and the Stars . The issue here , however , is not simply to assert that human behavior conforms to..."
  • "elements of Bwiti Fang, a syncretic religion that combines elements of Fang, Tsogho and Christian traditions"
Is Zamba a sun god and his wife the moon? Are some of these borrowed elements of Christianity?
  • "(Zamba, Okomboto, God) reigns over the village and the forest and particularly how he maintains absolute power. The first part of the myth opens under the sign of animist beliefs to which the Fang still adhere today, despite the ..."
  • "Zamba or Okomboto, there is very little difference. Each of them has a right to what they take from their creature. Zamba imposes a prohibition because he, himself, broke a fundamental law."
Zamba and Okomboto are synonymous? Or are they two competing gods that are very close but with fine difference?.
  • "Zamba or Okomboto, the all - knowing one who prohibits ; 2 ) the woman , who is prisoner of her desire ; and 3 ) Evus , himself , the seducer and cause of evil . The first conflict is between man and woman"
Who is Evus; how did he come about?
  • "Near the village, in the middle of a large forest, there was a swamp. Evus lived there nourishing himself with wild game. Okomboto had forbidden his wife to lead Evus to the village. One day, he went on a trip... The wife, curious, headed toward the swamp. She asked, ' Who is it who kills the antelope and the wild boar ? " I am the one. " " Who are you? ” “ I am Evus. ” " Why don't you come to the village? " " I'm difficult to feed and..."
From a tale about Evus' theft while Zamba was away.
  • "(Zamba or Okomboto), whose places of residence become the true centers of meaning"
  • "Zamba or Okomboto or man, lives a life of degradation. Originally, his relationship with man was symbiotic. Then, from the time he abandons them, from the time he leaves on his trip, the equilibrium is upset,"
  • "Zamba (the first man), brings about Evil and death on earth."
Zamba seems to have 2 uses here. Creator of man and the first man himself. Also, Evus started evil not first man Zamba?
  • "Zamba-God cried out in surprise: “What's this? It's you who comes here?” “Oh, yes!” replied Mod-Zamba. “I sent all my brothers, one after the other, to find you, but none of them arrived here! They were all unconscious!"
  • "Zamba arrived unexpectedly and said to his wife , “ I don't recognize my village that was so beautiful before : where are our animals ? Where is my daughter ? " In response , the woman just cried."
first man Zamba has a wife and a daughter.
  • "Zamba (literally) “the offering of reparations to Zamba's daughter,” sunrise is the time when the initiates invoke the Sun, rather than Zamba or his daughter, to give thanks for the past year and to ask for a bountiful harvest."
Zamba's daughter is important enough to make offerings to for bountiful harvest.
  • "Zamba returns to the village: In the past, Zamba lived among men; it was the golden age: There was neither evu nor awu (death); one only knew male sleep (nnom oyo) or female sleep (ngal oyo): "
  • "Zamba ) over Evus , the monster , followed by the appearance of Evus , and Evil , after the disobedience of the woman . In contrast, in the legend of Ngurangurane we are witness to, first, the tyrannical domination of Evil over man."
  • "Zamba was at the end of his patience . He confided to Koé the monkey : " There's been no sign of life of your..."
  • "Zamba and Ngomo-Zamba and, second, at the level of the character, Koé the monkey, who has no relationship at all to Kui the pygmy. In this version, the narrative is shorter, to the extent that the storyteller abbreviates the ..."
Zamba and Ngomo-Zamba are differentiated. Is one the creator Zamba and the other the first man Zamba?[1] 35.129.1.72 (talk) 07:58, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an expert; have not delved deeply enough into these myths to improve this article properly. Although, the article appears far removed from these excerpts. Mebegue , is the god of gods; creator of Zamba? Did Mebegue then create the earth and animals; not Zamba? Zamba appears to have been the first man, (who created himself or Mebegue created Zamba?), who then created other men. Okomboto appears to be a synonym, or a brother god; creator of other tribes, and who created Evus? Zamba acted with his wife, to create more people. Hopefully someone can make use of these M'Fang tales.35.129.1.72 (talk) 09:02, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nzame stories have distinct similarity to the Zamba tales.35.129.1.72 (talk) 10:06, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Fang people have their own article, but Yaunde do not, and are recursively referred to within Beti-Pahuin peoples while a competing article Beti people exists. A reorganization maybe needed? 35.129.1.72 (talk) 10:06, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
