- In science, a trial is the result of a given run of a given experiment, with the usual object of testing a scientific hypothesis. Multiple trials are usually run, when possible, for an experiment, in order to offset the effects of random error.
- In proprietary software (and some other commercial products), a trial version or trial or piece of trialware is a version of a product that only works for a limited period of time (and sometimes has reduced functionality). A trial version of a software package (or piece of trialware) is often produced by a software publisher to help users get a feel for it before deciding whether to buy the full version. See the more general term, shareware.
- In probability mathematics, a trial is an action that results in one of a number of outcomes or elementary events.
because none links to an article with trial in the name or refers to trial. Maybe all 3 need to be articles? Tedernst 19:16, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Why is this a dab page?
[edit]I think that the majority of people thinking of the word "trial" would think of a legal trial. "What links here" supports this, as the vast majority of the wikilinks intend to link to trial in the legal sense. So, I propose making the legal trial the main page for "trial" and creating a trial (disambiguation) page for other uses.
Any thoughts or objections? -Kubigula (ave) 22:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- No objections being voiced, I have moved "Trial" to "trial (disambiguation)"; I will redirect "Trial" to "Trial (law)"--Kubigula (talk) 03:18, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- On the off chance that anyone reads this and may care, I left "Trials" as a link to "Trial (disambiguation}", as trials seemed more likely to be used for one of the non-legal meanings of the word trial.--Kubigula (talk) 05:30, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
