Pro-Russia, anti-Ukraine

[edit]

From Kiev Post [1]: "Seagal received Russian citizenship in 2016, joined a pro-Kremlin political party in 2021, and visited occupied Ukraine in August 2022." Refs cited in that quote: BBC , DW, Sky News. ~2026-15592-97 (talk) 08:22, 30 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Draft dodging claim

[edit]

The article falsely claims that Seagal moved in 1974 to Japan and married his first wife in order to avoid being drafted during the Vietnam War. The end of conscription into the US military officially came to an end in January 1973 and the US removed the last of it's military units from Vietnam at the end of March of 1973 so unless he was not paying any attention to the news it is not possible for this to have been his motivation to move to Japan and marry. ~2026-33021-67 (talk) 18:30, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe - but one, or both of the sources given for the claim:
  • Farrell, Mary H.J.; Benet, Lorenzo; Fuhrman, Janice (November 19, 1990). "Sure, He's Making a Box-Office Killing—but Who Is Steven Seagal?"
  • Spy: The New York Monthly. Sussex Publishers, LLC: 58-. July 8, 1993.
seem to say so. Unfortunately I can't check them. Anybody? Alexpl (talk) 06:55, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
