OK, what's the right way you spell this thing's name? 71.203.64.151 (talk) 03:46, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

could be there are multiple "right" ways, depending on language and dialect. Especially bearing in mind that there might be non-orthographic languages involved.

This article needs clarification on which of the two names are correct, the second sentence reworded (the information itself seems to be solid) and there needs to be more information on what the creature actually is, if you ask me. Robin Talbot (talk) 20:02, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vampire or people?

[edit]

I am confused as there is a source that says the Asanbosam are a people who believe in a vampire called the Loango:

"Loango (LoAN-go)

The Ashanti and Asanbosam people of Africa believe that when a person who used magic in life dies, he will become a vampiric REVENANT.

Source: Haining, Dictionary of Vampires, 159; Le Roy, Religion of the Primitives, 95, 162; Masters, Natural History of the Vampire, 47; Volta, The Vampire, 152 " Bane, Theresa (2010). Encyclopedia of Vampire Mythology. McFarland. ISBN 9780786444526. pg 97

McFarland falls under verifiable per WP standards so is the Asanbosam a vampire or the name of the people who believe in a vampire?--172.75.14.11 (talk) 14:39, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Good source?

[edit]

Is vampires.com (the fifth source) really a reliable source? If it is, it should be noted that the source describes Asanbosam and Sasabonsam as separate concepts. Calcifer Cancroides (talk) 07:47, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"In the forests of West Africa, there were rules of renewal"

[edit]

Cited in the article as though everyone would know what this means ... makes it sound like the Sasabonsam checked people's recycling bins or something...? 82.1.7.158 (talk) 10:25, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This guy:

makes it sound like a sabbath-keeping thing, with the sasabonsam punishing taboo breakers.

Incorrect Description

[edit]

"It is said to have iron teeth, pink skin, long red hair and iron hooks for feet and lives in trees, attacking from above." The source provided does not mention pink skin or long red hair, and I can't find any articles that have described that. Ajpocken (talk) 00:31, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the hair, I'm also finding descriptions of it being black or chocolate brown, so I've removed the color, as well as the part about the skin, and added a source for the length of the hair, which numerous sources call "long". Largoplazo (talk) 03:27, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
