Privacy

How does Phone Link (or whatever its current name is) communicate with the Android app?

It would be interesting to know how the 2 computers communicate. Is it by Bluetooth, WiFi? Is Internet required? Do I need a Microsoft account? I dont have any Microsoft account on any of my 10+ Windows PC's.

I have searched for info on this but haven't found anything despite finding a multitude of web pages about how to set it up. Adding this info to the Wikipedia page would be good...
