A fact from Pepe the Frog appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 15 January 2016 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
|
Meme coin $PEPE
[edit]Per this page: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/pepe/
"""
PEPE is a deflationary memecoin launched on Ethereum. The cryptocurrency was created as a tribute to the Pepe the Frog internet meme, created by Matt Furie, which gained popularity in the early 2000s. The project aims to capitalize on the popularity of meme coins, like Shiba Inu and Dogecoin, and strives to establish itself as one of the top meme-based cryptocurrencies. PEPE appeals to the cryptocurrency community by instituting a no-tax policy and being up-front about its lack of utility, keeping things pure and simple as a memecoin.
"""
I don't think the article needs all this, but some kind of reference to the coin seems appropriate at this point.
Here's a couple more mentions to the coin as well:

- Not even sure if some random cryptocoin is even worth a mention on this page tbh. Feels shoehorned in SquirrelKiev (talk) 17:13, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

Change in "Origin: Boy's Club"
Change
In the comic, Pepe is seen urinating in a toilet, having left the door open; when one of his friends asks him why he lowered his pants to urinate, Pepe simply answers: "feels good man" as his rationale.[16][17] Furie took those posts down when the printed edition was published in 2006.[6]

In the comic, Pepe is seen urinating in a toilet, having left the door open; when one of his friends tells him he heard, he lowered his pants all the way down to urinate, Pepe simply answers: "feels good man" as his rationale.[16][17] Furie took those posts down when the printed edition was published in 2006.[6] DasMoriginal (talk) 12:02, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
Not done: Seems unnecessary and could be confusing to readers. As it's written, his/him/he all refer to Pepe. Adding another "he", referring to the friend, in the middle of the sentence would create an ambiguous pronoun reference. Nubzor [T][C] 17:48, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
Suggestion: add information about Twitch culture
[edit]The article currently associates Pepe with 4chan and Tumblr. His history is incomplete without mention that many viewers see Pepe (and "Peepo", his poorly-drawn version that has been characterized as gentler or wholesome), as Vice describes him, as "a ubiquitous Twitch chat emote, one that has become deeply intertwined with the experience of being on Twitch", or even "reclaimed" from the political right. https://www.vice.com/en/article/why-twitch-loves-this-animation-of-a-more-gentle-pepe/
I encourage any interested editors to find some sources to cite and document Twitch users' view of Pepe. 'Sadge' is a part of Gen Z slang, and official Twitch emotes such as the League of Legends collaborations CaitlynS and FeelsVi are based on the Pepe emotes monkaS and FeelsStrongMan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbu4JH5BDJQ Descriptivist (talk) 05:31, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
