Population

[edit]

@Altenmann: I think you missed a few from the 2009/2019 census. Mellk (talk) 05:49, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Mellk: Right, how did you notice that? Do you remember the stats of the whole Belarus ? :-) --Altenmann >talk 05:56, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wish. I just remembered that I created the article Syomkava and noticed its absence here. Mellk (talk) 06:07, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mellk:: I noticed that the source made a blunder: between 2009/2019 the numbers of villages in selsoviets changed, but his table lists only 2019 villages. And his total population number is just the sum of the row numbers, whereas in fact the total number in 2009 was larger. Tomorrow I will add missing villages, so that I have to get the 2009 pop.number of 10,232. --Altenmann >talk 06:09, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see, that is indeed unfortunate. Thanks for the heads up. Mellk (talk) 06:11, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mellk:: another surprize for me: while I was slowly adding them one by one, I could not help but notice that population totals from 2009 to 2019 consistently increased in all selsoviets. I was puzzled: what the heck, birth rate in Belarus 10-15% ?? :-) But then I noticed that the number of selsoviets decreased... --Altenmann >talk 06:14, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
To be fair, I would not be surprised at the population increasing for some settlements near Minsk city during this period (I noticed a large increase for Syomkava). But yes, that is also a reason. Mellk (talk) 06:19, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that was my first thought as well. --Altenmann >talk 07:09, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So, in a week I handled 18 selsaviets in Minsk district of 216 in Minsk region, of 1,151 in Belarus, i.e., 1.5% or 1/64. ... :-( I guess, this work needs automation. Unfortunately I am not keen on javascript or whatever they use for wikipedia bots. --Altenmann >talk 07:24, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would be interested, but considering how relatively few people view these pages, it is not very motivating (and makes me think I could use the time in other areas). I created some articles on the agrotowns but there are still many hundreds left. Mellk (talk) 07:26, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Looking at related changes for my list of pages I created, in looks like nobody is interested in editing anything I wrote (besides wikignomes :-) --Altenmann >talk 07:33, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But it was still fun for me to write up Vasya Pupkin or Barefoot szlachta or Aharon Almog or Five and a Half Love Stories in a Vilnius Apartment. --Altenmann >talk 07:36, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Aside from us, it seems, there is probably nobody else who is interested in Belarusian settlements at the moment. The whole Belarus topic area is neglected. I think there was only a little bit of interest around 2020. Mellk (talk) 07:37, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am afraid 95% of all topics are neglected. A while ago I did a similar job for Lithuania, stubbing all Lithuanian seniūnijos, like Palentinis Eldership, only to be scolded that I didnt do interwikilinks and stub sorting properly. Take a look at the lower right corner of an old version of my user page. --Altenmann >talk 07:46, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I still see some regular contributors to the Lithuania topic area (as a whole), but I cannot say the same for Belarus, even though the latter has three times the population. Mellk (talk) 07:52, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
