Why does the article refer to "monkeypox " as the former name?
In May 2015, World Health Organization (WHO) suggested naming practices for new infectious diseases to prevent offense or economic impact on any groups. In 2022 the WHO endorsed mpox as the new name for monkeypox. See Mpox#Nomenclature

I understand that in medical cases, we should not be afraid of a graphic photo. But I would consider this page to be a very basic starting-point for people of all ages wanting to learn about mpox. Currently there is a photo of lesions on the penis, which could be shocking to either parents, sensitive people, or those viewing this page on a work computer. I think the photo could be swapped with another and not lose any meaning, while not shocking people or making them worry about getting in trouble from their employer. ~2026-26196-01 (talk) 20:01, 30 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
