Speed running the Golden Age
[edit]There should be a small notation of speed running for this game - It literally began here with Goldeneye and bleed into early twitch movement many years later where people "stream" progress of respective games online - Goldeneye was a catalyst for this aspect of gaming which being James Bond was all about efficiency in completing an objective usually in a "target time" thus blooming the golden age of speed running - Even the gaming magazines in their day would put up target times for their respective readers to try and "surpass" to be listed in their magazine - For instance Nintendo Power magazine had Goldeneye programmers "best time" on the Facility stage in OOA setting at 1:25 which unlocked invincibility deeming one of the top "cheats" unlocked in Goldeneye - S.N 72.45.35.55 (talk) 03:04, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

GoldenEye 007 (1997 video game) → GoldenEye 007 – The film is titled GoldenEye and is, to my knowledge, not referred to as "GoldenEye 007" basically ever; a hatnote is more than enough to cover any possible confusion. Among things actually titled "GoldenEye 007", this video game is by far the most significant, as it basically invented console first-person shooters. The only other thing with this title is the game's remake, which is much less significant. Ladtrack (talk) 20:01, 8 November 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. Favonian (talk) 17:50, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose It's not obviously primary over the 2010 game, which was also pretty major, even if not at the same level of notoriety. Therefore, I don't see the pressing need to make it primary. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 09:19, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
- You really think so? The page gets almost triple the pageviews, even though it's 13 years older. Also, at least according to the page itself, it's listed as one of the greatest games of all time, and influenced games like Halo, Call of Duty, and Half-Life, which the 2010 game doesn't have anything of the sort. Plus, the 2010 game is a remake of this one. I would've thought this would be a long-term significance clear. This seems very similar to situations with other games like Perfect Dark vs Perfect Dark (2010 video game), Demon's Souls vs. Demon's Souls (2020 video game), or Silent Hill 2 vs. Silent Hill 2 (2024 video game). Ladtrack (talk) 19:09, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
- I agree completely. Being the predecessor, Rare's GoldenEye 007 deserves to have the shortened title, as that's what the majority of readers are searching for. CloneCommanderCody88 (talk) 16:36, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- Is it similar to those other situations? Yes, but I don't necessarily agree with those situations either. Like, I don't believe the original Silent Hill 2 is obviously the primary topic any more, even if the remake was based on it. My requested move of Demon's Souls had a very mixed consensus for moving the original game to a disambiguation, but failed by a slim margin. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 10:20, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

- Support the original game is the primary topic. Disambiguated naturally with the 007 vs not. The remake is not anywhere near as primary. Andre🚐 20:11, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
- Support per nom, as well as the pageviews. The 2010 game is obviously notable in its own right but I don't think there's any argument that it's a genuine challenge to the 1997 one being the primary topic. JOEBRO64 20:13, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose it's an obscure video game. Let's not confuse readers. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:08, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
- No, it isn't obscure. It didn't turn into a franchise, so it's not super talked about today, but it was one of the most popular games of the 90s, and it made a huge impact on video games as a whole. Read the legacy section of the article and you'll see it's very influential. Ladtrack (talk) 22:30, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

- Support per nom. Clearly the primary topic for "GoldenEye 007", and a hatnote fixes any possible conufsion. – Pbrks (t·c) 18:34, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
