Family name

[edit]

There seems to be a major misunderstanding in the article regarding the name Trump. The Trump family certainly didn't change their name; it evolved naturally over time. Until around 1850, there was no binding spelling system in Germany, so names were spelled in the opinion of the writer, including dialectal accents. In the Palatinate dialects, the hard "T" often becomes a softer "D," which also explains "Trump" to "Drump(f)". Matweber80 (talk) 10:37, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It also appears that the claim Friedrich Drumf was born "Frederick Trump" is false, from the records I have seen. The information in this article is misleading, if not false. Rickbickmore (talk) 22:27, 5 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Change birth name in lead section?

[edit]

The lead section says that he was "born Friedrich Trumpf", but the article otherwise gives the name at the time of his birth as "Friedrich Trump", and Trump is also the spelling in the birth certificate shown. So, should "Trumpf" in the lead section be changed to "Trump"? Apparently, U.S. immigration records list his name as "Trumpf", but that's not the birth name, then? As far as I know, it's not uncommon that there are inconsistencies in the spelling of names in immigration records. Gestumblindi (talk) 20:31, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
