Adding Wiki-Project

[edit]

Quick question, since Frank Zappa spent his upbringing and attended Mission Bay High School would it be accaptable to tag this page with WP:San Diego or WP:CAL Or, considering the brevity of his time spent in San Diego, and he did not graduate from that school might it be more prudent to refrain from adding such additions? History and Collected Improvisations of the Mothers

[edit]

Starting in about 1969 Zappa talked about releasing a multi LP box set called "The History and Collected Improvisations of the Mothers of Invention". During the 70s it was variously described as a 12, 10, or 9 album box set or possibly a series of 3 sets of 3 albums each. No mention is made of the project in this article and it needs to be added.

Many Zappa interviews describe the album. This Zappacast episode describes it: https://www.zappa.com/zappacast-episode-62-the-history-and-collected-improvisations-of-the-mothers-of-invention-epilogue/#/

Of course this box set never was released but many of the recordings were re-worked into other albums. Also note, that bootleggers created their own box set of Zappa music with the same title but that is a completely different project not approved by Zappa. ~2026-14636-22 (talk) 20:48, 10 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The History and Collected Improvisations box is an important subject because understanding Zappa's thoughts about box sets helps us to explain the confusing history of the Läther album. Gail Zappa claimed that Warner rejected Läther but Zappa himself says otherwise. The box sets that were actually rejected by Warner were the various proposed versions of the History and Collected Improvisations box sets, not Läther. We know this because we also know that Zappa said that he did not create Läther until August - October 1977, which was AFTER he completed the Warner contract with the delivery of the 4 individual albums in March 1977. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-22184-27 (talk) 22:18, 10 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Importance

[edit]

I never knew how important frank Zappa was, I use to see him as a random avant-garde weirdo, and then I see how many links connect to him, he is mentioned in smoke on the water and yet he's only got 1m listeners on Spotify, this guy essentially changed music, wow. ~2026-35591-42 (talk) 09:52, 19 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
