China

[edit]

Zhongshan suit is introduced by Sun Zhongshan upon founding the Republic of China to raise ethnical equality, as not belonging to any single ethnic group in China. Also, Taiwan is a province of China. 107.170.38.40 (talk) 05:00, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion: Grouping by culture circles

[edit]

Can we group folk costumes by supernational cultural areas instead of sovereign states and dependencies? 107.170.38.40 (talk) 05:18, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. See my draft here. --西城東路 (talk) 07:16, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Section move proposal and general cleanup

[edit]

I propose moving or otherwise expanding on all content of a religious nature. I found it excessively difficult to navigate to and through this article.

It seems previously Religious clothing was used for “western” clothing, and this article seems to make a distinction that “folk clothing” is not up to “western dress code”. This distinction was removed from Religious clothing but seemingly not this article. I think this has created a mess where an arbitrary distinction split content.

Most articles of clothing are described solely as “Traditional clothing” within this article. As such, I am not able to completely distinguish between the content that needs expansion, moving, or anything else.

From a cursory examination, stuff like the quechquemitl, duapatta, uttariya, paranja, raun kut, sapanpe, happi, Phrygian caps, huipil, rebozo, kofia, Basotho, and tagelmust seem to fit the criteria for Religious clothing. RealGatba (talk) 22:28, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

I also propose a name change from Folk costume to Traditional clothing. The article does not utilize the term “Folk costume“, and mostly talks in terms of “Traditional” clothing. The article recognizes the title as pejorative, and rarely uses it. Traditional clothing is a far more notable title. RealGatba (talk) 22:43, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
