Proposed rewrite of article (replacing current version)

[edit]

Hello, and thank you in advance for your time.

I am the subject of this article and am therefore editing with a conflict of interest. I understand that I should not directly edit the page and am instead proposing changes here for independent review.

I have prepared a substantially revised version of the article intended to address issues of sourcing, tone, and structure. The new version relies on independent, reliable sources and avoids promotional or generalized language.

My intention is for this revised draft to replace the current article, as it more closely aligns with Wikipedia’s standards for verifiability and neutrality.

You can view the proposed version here: Draft:Earl MacDonald

I would be grateful for any feedback, and I am happy to make further revisions if needed.

Thank you for your consideration. Earlmacdon (talk) 00:17, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

As I noted at WT:JAZZ, other editors (Helpful Raccoon, Athanelar) already warned about likely use of an LLM in this redraft, which is prohibited. (The language of the above request also feels rather boilerplate; Earlmacdon, can you confirm whether it was constructed using an LLM? See WP:AITALK.) The existing biographical article is the result of edits by various people over the years, which effort should not be overwritten by machine extrusion (albeit which you have edited to some degree after the AFC reviewers' rejections). I suggest that the more appropriate way ahead would be for you to identify areas for incremental improvement to the existing article, then, for each, prepare a suggested referenced text in your own words, then submit each as a Requested Edit here. I am minded that the present overwrite request should be rejected, but will wait for others' comments here. AllyD (talk) 07:45, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for this thoughtful feedback.
I understand the concerns regarding tone and process. In revising the draft, I worked to improve sourcing, structure, and neutrality, drawing on published sources. Your point about process is well taken. Rather than proposing a full replacement of the article, I will shift to identifying specific areas for improvement in the existing text and submit incremental, well-sourced edit requests for each.
Thank you again for the guidance—I will proceed accordingly and welcome further input. Earlmacdon (talk) 09:41, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Earlmacdon, you should answer AllyD's question about LLM usage. Thanks, Sarsenethe/they•(talk) 12:20, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Sarsenet, thank you for the follow-up.
No, I did not use an LLM to generate or rewrite the article content. I drafted the revisions manually, working from published sources.
I appreciate the concerns that have been raised, and I am proceeding now through incremental, well-sourced edit requests on the Talk page.

To confirm here as well: I did not use an LLM to generate or rewrite the article content. I am proceeding with incremental edit requests on the Talk page.

Update – will pursue incremental edits instead

[edit]

Following the feedback above, I will not pursue a complete replacement of the article. Instead, I will identify specific areas for improvement and submit incremental, well-sourced edit requests based on the existing version. Earlmacdon (talk) 10:08, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed edit – refine opening sentence for concision

[edit]

Current text: Earl MacDonald (born July 26, 1970)[1] is a Canadian pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, recording artist, and educator specializing in jazz.

Proposed text: Earl MacDonald (born July 26, 1970)[1] is a Canadian jazz composer, pianist, arranger, conductor, and educator.

Rationale: This revision improves concision and flow by integrating “jazz” directly into the primary descriptor, in line with common Wikipedia lead style. The change preserves the original meaning while simplifying the phrasing.

Proposed edit - remove the promotional language from lead

[edit]

Current text: Described as "a magical, musical alchemist of hip hybrids",[2] MacDonald's compositional work frequently draws upon other musical styles, fusing them with jazz.[3]

Proposed text: MacDonald's compositional work frequently draws upon other musical styles, fusing them with jazz.[3]

Rationale: This revision removes promotional, subjective language while preserving the original meaning and sourcing, in line with Wikipedia’s neutral point of view policy. Earlmacdon (talk) 11:39, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
