Work on the draft and submit through AfC

[edit]

Hi @Sonesen this is a promising article, however I think it would be best to work on the Draft:Divine hiddenness version and submit it through AfC. David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 20:50, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I did not find such a draft when I clicked on your link. Given discussion over at Argument from nonbelief, I split out the relevant content here. Having everything about Divine Hiddenness over there never made sense; Divine Hiddenness is the broader topic.
Anyway, going forward, Divine Hiddenness is currently not built out, but I plan to expand it more. If there are other versions floating about, such content could be added and integrated into this new version. GreenRedGreen (talk) 05:47, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Areas of opportunity for this page

[edit]

This is a rich topic with important content spanning millennia across not just Christianity but other monotheistic religions. It is an important topic in philosophy even beyond the Argument from nonbelief, though modern discussions have centered on that in many ways.

The page doesn't reflect that yet, but it can.

Notable thinkers on this matter that I can think of off the top of my head:

- Notable Christian thought: Blaise Pascal (Pensees), Helmut Thielicke (The Silence of God), Sir Robert Anderson (The Silence of God), C.S. Lewis (A Grief Observed, Til We Have Faces), St. John of the Cross (Long Dark Night of the Soul), Shusaku Endo (Silence), Martin Luther and Aquinas (both of whom discussed the concept of Deus Absonditus)

- Philosophers like Howard-Snyder, Moser, Nagasawa, Van Inwagen, etc. are quite notable on this matter with various perspectives

- McGinnis on Islamic thinkers and DH as well as Islamic sources themselves (if someone with expertise in this can help)

- Jewish thought on DH, including perhaps more from the Psalms or even Second Temple literature like Wisdom of Solomon as well as rabbinical views

I am better equipped to help with the first two and to a lesser extent the latter two. Would be excellent to have collaboration on this, including with any other areas of opportunity others might note. GreenRedGreen (talk) 06:12, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
