landing space for merge of 'Magnetic strip card' into 'Digital card'

[edit]

Although Magnetic stripe card is better sourced, and explains using IBM.com sourcing how the magstrip card was developed, the name Digital card seems like it has more usefullness/has a better future, as seen in 2022. Nuts240 (talk) 21:04, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

some of this material is borderline CopyVio (I looked at the original text and what's in wiki). The hot iron part seems like worth retaining, albeit reworded to not be a word-for-word copy. Much of the rest can be handled via DELETE/Link-to-LookBack. Nuts240 (talk) 02:30, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Scope?

[edit]

Magnetic cards were used in mass storage systems well before consumer products such as credit cards, and there are computer storage articles with {{main|magnetic card}}. Should this article describe that use, or should it have a {{distinguish}} template? Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 15:39, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Split?

[edit]

Since this article is called "Digital card", I feel that most of the article from "Magnetic stripe card" onwards belongs in another article, such as Magnetic stripe cardGhostInTheMachine talk to me 08:32, 7 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. Magnetic stripe card was merged here back in 2022. I can't find any discussion about the logic for doing that. It makes sense to undo the merge, so that this article is only about virtual cards — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 08:36, 7 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
