Rider figure disagreement
[edit]Please get the figures in line. Dallas Area Rapid Transit According to NCTCOG transit statistics, DART's light rail system had a daily ridership of 109,511 average trips per weekday in October 2012 which is an increase of more than 81% since October 2010. Here it says: It has a daily ridership of 75,000 average trips per weekday. 99.11.160.111 (talk) 14:50, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Citations
[edit]This page is pretty lacking in citations. I just expanded it with a new section on the D2 Study, with plenty of proper cites there, but it needs work. Over time, I'll try to add cites to support the rest of the page where I can. Any help in finding and adding cites to the existing material would be greatly appreciated, though. Not the first light rail system in the southwest
[edit]I should clarify my recent edit removing a claim that this was the first light rail system in the American Southwest. DART is not the first as the Los Angeles Blue Line opened in 1990, and the Green line, also in Los Angeles, opened in 1995. Slambo (Speak) 20:22, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
Also, San Diego's system opened in 1981. Slambo (Speak) 20:25, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
Nor was DART's first heavy-rail subway station the first in the southwest. Again, Los Angeles preceded this in 1993 with the B line (then called the Red Line). Slambo (Speak) 20:29, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

DART Light Rail → DART light rail – Since there isn't any official branding for the light rail system, isn't it improper to capitalize the "light rail" part of the name? Making it lowercase would be in line with systems such as the VTA light rail, the MBTA subway, and the Toronto subway systems, each of which lacks formal brandings. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 10:23, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Comment – While we're at this, I also think that each of the individual line article titles (including the Silver Line) ought to have "(Dallas Area Rapid Transit)" be shortened to just "(DART)," like in other cities like Chicago with the article titles for each Chicago "L" line. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 10:34, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Support lowercase light rail; it's not part of the name/brand. Dicklyon (talk) 21:04, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Post move question
[edit]Per @OrdinaryScarlett in the above move request, I wanted to list candidates for a possible move if anybody wants to proceed:
In article
[edit]Above, it was proposed that the following be changed to "X Line (DART)" (keeping the current capital L, please note if it should be different)
- Orange Line (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)
- Green Line (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)
- Red Line (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)
- Blue Line (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)
Related
[edit]These could possibly be changed, with exception of Dallas Area Rapid Transit, of which I am unsure, to "List of DART X"
List of Dallas Area Rapid Transit rail stationsthat was moved already, there's a good chance this entire list could succeed as a bold move, it seems- possibly List of Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus routes
- and the base article Dallas Area Rapid Transit
Pinging @Dicklyon just in case as they were in the move above. If anybody wants to proceed I (or anybody) can open a move request or we can leave this here for future consideration. Thanks! ASUKITE 14:42, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- At this point, a couple of WP:BOLD moves are in order. Dicklyon (talk) 14:57, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Asukite: you going to do this, or need help? Dicklyon (talk) 04:17, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and done all of these, except for the base article. Precedence seems to be that all of the other affiliated articles besides the base transit agency article utilizes the common abbreviated name of the transit agency in question (see the base and affiliated articles regarding the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority for a couple of examples). OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 06:43, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Include Silver Line?
[edit]Looking at publicity material from the Silver Line's opening, DART seems to be largely treating it as an extension of the existing rail system. The "Silver Line" branding is similar to the other lines, and it is listed on DART's website in a similar manner to the other lines. Additionally, the new system map marks Silver Line stations with the same icon (diamond shape) as the light rail stations. This is explicitly different from the regional rail icon (square shape) used for the other three commuter rail lines in the region.
As a commuter rail service, the Silver Line uses different vehicles, has different station architecture, and has a less frequent schedule. This is not in and of itself a reason to keep them separate, though – the MBTA subway page includes heavy rail, light rail, and BRT on the same page.
If the Silver Line is added, I'd recommend renaming the page to DART Rail System, which is the name used on the DART website and the current rail map. LazyCat256 (talk) 02:28, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
- I came here to also request the addition of the silver line in the map. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 16:29, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
- @LazyCat256: Yeah, I'd be in favor of this as well. It makes sense given how DART has been branding the Silver Line. I had some initial hangups regarding if other editors would also be in favor, that it would no longer neatly be just light rail, or that this should also extend to the Trinity Railway Express and the Dallas Streetcar given that DART also operates those systems too, but given that they're branded separately (the former a 50/50 split with Trinity Metro), I think this is fair. It's better to be consistent with how DART brands these lines rather than arbitrarily separating them by mode, much like how other transit agencies do, like the MBTA and their subway system, and how MARTA separates their rapid transit system from the Atlanta Streetcar.
- I do think maybe a simpler, more informal title like DART rail may be better, given that "Rail System" isn't really a formalized branding name in the same way as say, SEPTA Metro is, and more in line with the other examples previously given. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 23:26, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
