Year of marriage?
[edit]Why does a marriage record says she married in 1980 instead of 1978?TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 00:20, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- This cited source says 1978. Lots of 2020 obituary sources say 1978.[1] But you added 1980, first citing the California marriage index and then a search at ancestry.com, which I don't have access to. It's possible that there was a family ceremony in 1978 but the civil paperwork was completed in 1980. Ruth Pointer writes about the wedding ceremony in her 2016 memoir, saying on page 147 that Bonnie and Jeffrey "adjourned to the master bedroom to smoke crack" after the vows in Novato at their mother's house. Pretty gnarly stuff. Binksternet (talk) 05:02, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Solo recognition
[edit]A cordial greeting, this is An5j2 speaking and I want to apologize for the inconvenience. I want to clarify that my intention is to acknowledge Bonnie Pointer's success as a solo artist, something that isn't being treated as it should be. Bonnie Pointer reached #1 in Mexico with a song titled "El Cielo Debe Haberte Enviado" (Heaven Must Have Sen You), In late 1979, which made it an international success, Bonnie had a hit with "I'm Can't Help Myself," reaching the top 40 of the Hot 100 and the top 5 dance charts hit first hit was "Free me from my freedom", which reached the top 10 R&B charts. Other tracks like "The Beast In Me" appeared in a film, including a music video, and reached #31 on the Dance charts. The lead single from her third album, titled "Your "Touch" reached the top 40 R&B charts. She was also recognized on American Bandstand, with numerous appearances between 1979-1985. She appeared on numerous shows during that era and also presented the American Music Award to Michael Jackson two years in a row. There are many things about her that, from what I can see, you don't know. I long for her solo success to be recognized. Obviously, she didn't achieve the massive fame of the Pointer Sisters, but she had her own success and accolades, something that deserves to be remembered. Let me make it happen and let Bonnie be remembered, and by the way, in 2011 she reached #3 on the R&B albums chart, something that was removed An5j2mp (talk) 03:09, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
- What is your source for chart success in 2011? The 2011 album did not hit any Billboard album charts,[2] so I don't know what you are talking about. Binksternet (talk) 05:06, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Binksternet, That was just a mistake. But everything else is confirmed; you can see Bonnie's chart positions on Billboard's official page. An5j2mp (talk) 18:49, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- Appearing on various television shows such as American Bandstand and Soul Train is just routine promotion of her music; it does not give her any greater status. We can tell the reader of these appearances but it does not make her more successful than the Pointer Sisters singing without her in the 1980s, nor does it make her equally successful. At her death, the media said her career was not as big as the Pointer Sisters. I disagree with any effort to put Bonnie's career ahead of her time with the Pointer Sisters. I recognize myself as a soloist
[edit]Throughout her career, Bonnie Pointer achieved some notable successes, such as reaching the top 5 and top 40 of the Billboard Dance charts and achieving the top 40 in R&B, she achieved a #1 in Mexico and a super hit disco Having enjoyed a very successful period in Mexico, something that goes unrecognized is that she received multiple awards such as the AMAs in 1980-1981 and appeared on a film soundtrack in 1985. Please...allow us to recognize Bonnie Pointer's success as a solo artist. An5j2mp (talk) 18:45, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

Organize
[edit]Please, we should all improve this page... First of all, the disorganization; she had a career from 1978-1985, so much shouldn't be added to The Pointer Sisters.Ordering by chronological order doesn't even include Bonnie's true success... An5j2mp (talk) 01:37, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- I imagine you are talking about an edit like this one which says she was "ALSO" in the Pointer Sisters. I disagree with that suggestion which goes against the way that all the media sources describe her. Binksternet (talk) 02:16, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Binksternet I didn't understand your message... An5j2mp (talk) 02:21, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- You are consistently looking to establish Bonnie as a solo singer first and a Pointer Sister second. The media don't say this. They say she is best known for being a Pointer Sister. Binksternet (talk) 02:56, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Binksternet His two hit albums were very well received in Latin America between 1979-1981; with just two songs he made a name for himself. Did you know that Bonnie's "Heaven Must Have Sent You" was #1 in Mexico for 7 weeks? An5j2mp (talk) 03:04, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- I do not accept your reasoning because the media have published descriptions which portray her as less successful in her solo career than the Pointer Sisters.
- The New York Times said that in her solo career she "never found the same success she had enjoyed in the Pointer Sisters."
- The Guardian wrote that "Her four-album solo career never saw her reaching the heights scaled by the Pointer Sisters, whose most successful records were made after Bonnie left."
- Billboard said that "Bonnie’s solo success slowed down as the decade turned to the ’80s, while the refortified Pointer Sisters experienced their biggest pop hits."
- All of these sources agree that Bonnie's solo career was not as impressive as her time with the Pointer Sisters. Binksternet (talk) 03:18, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Binksternet Sure, but she has her own name, and she was in Motown. You're right, but that's cleared up; I've taken care of the articles in Italian, Portuguese, and mainly Spanish. An5j2mp (talk) 03:22, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- I am saddened to hear that the wikis in those languages portray her with your bias rather than with a neutral summary of the media. Binksternet (talk) 03:24, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Binksternet I stated that it was successful, because it was successful, but I always clarify that it didn't reach the stratospheric success of The Pointer Sisters. An5j2mp (talk) 03:26, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Binksternet Analyze my page in Spanish, I highlighted almost everything... you should advise me. An5j2mp (talk) 03:27, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
