Were there only 100 people resettled in 1970?
[edit]Two sources I have included state that 200 residents were resettled in Bikini Atoll before their final removal in 1978, rather then only 100 residents as stated in the first part of the article. -Krharrod (talk) 20:35, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Incongruous mention of HYSPLIT software under "Nuclear test site" section
[edit]The second paragraph in the Bikini Atoll#Nuclear test site section provides a non-trivial discussion of the application of the software HYSPLIT to estimate eventual radioactive deposition. There are two problems with this paragraph:
- The grammar of the paragraph implies that this analysis was conducted immediately or soon after the Castle Bravo test. However, Castle Bravo took place in 1954, while the HYSPLIT software was first published by the NOAA in 1998.
- Further to the first point, the entire discussion surrounding the use of the HYSPLIT software seems to be recounting only information from the earlier-cited article (currently source [24] on this page).
Given these points, I suggest at least either changing the sentence starting with "Nuclear fallout deposits were tested..." to instead start like "In 2010, an article published by Harold et al. tested nuclear fallout deposition...", or to move this entire passage to its own paragraph.
In general, it might make more sense to move this entire paragraph, or at least everything from the "Nuclear fallout deposits were tested..." sentence onwards, to Nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll. This paragraph is quite specific for a page about Bikini Atoll as a whole. Zelpuz (talk) 17:24, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Paragraph appears to use non-linear time, or perhaps just repetitive?
[edit]Resident and non-resident population section, paragraph 3, currently reads:
"In 1972, about 100 Bikini islanders returned to live on the atoll after they were reassured that it was safe. They remained for about 6 years until scientists found an 11-fold increase in the caesium-137 body burdens and determined that the island was not safe after all. The 178 residents were evacuated in September 1978 once again. In the late 1960s it was thought that, finally it would be safe to return to Bikini as originally planned, and they did in 1972, but it turned out there was still too much contamination and the plan was aborted and the islanders moved to other locations."
So they returned in 1972, stayed 6 years, then evacuated in 1978 (All good). Then in the late 1960s it was thought safe to return, so they did in 1972? Perhaps the final sentence could be removed, or the paragraph re-written to include the contents of the final sentence woven in a little more clearly? NotThatMat (talk) 01:11, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
Relocation
[edit]I'm doing a little CE of this page, and noticed that the relocation of islanders is referred to as a "forced relocation" in the lead, but is described as voluntary later in the article. This would seem to be an incongruence, but I haven't read the whole article so perhaps it is not. Any thoughts would be appreciated. OrdinaryOtter (talk) 16:45, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
