History section: Draisienne or Laufmaschine ("running machine")

[edit]

"Draisienne" is the French translation of the original German "Draisine". This requires editorial decision; confusion with the English word "draisine" needs to be adressed. "Running machine" is a woozy translation. I would like to submit "stride machine". 2A02:810B:E01:9900:8DFB:EBC1:E7A6:291B (talk) 18:46, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You should be able to edit it yourself now Chidgk1 (talk) 06:46, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of semi-protected status

[edit]

I see no reason for this article to stay semi-protected. Its been years since any real disruptive activity. Clockiel (talk) 05:43, 3 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Changed to “ Pending changes protection” as a trial Chidgk1 (talk) 06:50, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Core contest

[edit]

Anyone like to go tandem with me to improve this article for Wikipedia:The_Core_Contest/Entries#Bicycle? Chidgk1 (talk) 15:06, 11 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I'll help, but intermittendly. It needs more than just us two, especially as we don't always agree. Theosch (talk) 12:40, 17 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Theosch Great. Intermittent is fine - me too. If we have disagreed in the past I have forgotten. Happy to talk and find compromises re this article - can you write on this talk page what we might not agree on, preferably not too much in each talk page topic Chidgk1 (talk) 17:15, 17 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not capable of the structured procedure you suggest, forget stuff and can only take a fresh approach from time to time. Thank you for your recent edits. I suggest that you do as many such edits as feasible in a single session in order to reduce the load on the history page and its resources. Theosch (talk) 07:36, 21 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I think you are sometimes heavy-handed in deleting stuff, especially my stuff  :-), giving extra work and diminishing my motivation to work on this article. Also, you are still flooding the change history with lots of individual minor edits and maintenance tags. Plesse try to group them in fewer sessions. Theosch (talk) 16:13, 15 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Theosch Sorry if I accidentally deleted anything you added. I’ll be on holiday for a while so very unlikely to edit this article again before the end of the contest. Feel free to revert any of my edits and I hope you might have time and motivation to improve the article further Chidgk1 (talk) 16:39, 15 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. My laptop just died and I'm also away, so probably won't be able to edit for a while either. Let us hope the article does well. Theosch (talk) 09:51, 16 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Scope?

[edit]

Is the scope right?

For example if there is no detailed article maybe there should be more on manufacturing and Bicycle#Legal requirements perhaps belongs in cycling. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:12, 11 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article is a bit long, as some of the sections are very detailled in spite of having their own pages. Some of the material is more related to the activity of cycling than the physical bicycle, therefore I agree. Theosch (talk) 09:16, 21 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

How could this article be improved?

[edit]

Not sure yet I am going to take it on but in case I or someone else does what are your ideas? Chidgk1 (talk) 09:12, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Definitions https://www.ecf.com/en/news/european-rail-operators-introduce-common-definition-for-a-bicycle-on-international-train-services/
https://www.cpsc.gov/content/bicycle-requirements-business-guidance
https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.04.071
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/198/regulation/2
but maybe too detailed for here perhaps add to Bicycle law Chidgk1 (talk) 16:17, 13 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
