Could an admin/reviewer please review this development and add to the article? - Siemens invests $130 million in Bentley Systems, pre-IPO

[edit]

Bentley Systems had this article written about them on Philly.com dated 11 Nov 2016: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inq-phillydeals/Siemens-invests-70-million-in-Malvern-software-firm.html [1]

Here is an excerpt of the article that shows the main point: "Siemens says "virtually all Siemens divisions," including Energy Management, Power Generation, Building Technology, and Mobility, will now use Bentley software to collect application information "for design modeling, analytical modeling, construction modeling and asset performance modeling."

I am affiliated with Bentley so I do not want to make any edits to the article myself as not to break any conflict of interest rules. I would very much appreciate it if an admin/reviewer wouldn't mind taking a moment to look at the brief news article, and if it is acceptable, update the article to reflect this notable achievement.

Thank you in advance for your time! --MBouch16 (talk) 15:50, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

At least one major contributor to this article has declared a close personal or professional connection to the topic, and thus a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request, or by clicking the link on the lowest yellow notice above. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.

Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:29, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, resubmitting me previous request after adding some more sources. Full disclosure that I am affiliated with the organization. All I would like to do is add the extra Acquisitions to the existing list just like many other articles out there currently do.

Please note that the citations included below are from non-related online sources many of which are in the article currently for other acquisitions listed (such as engineering.com and constructionweekonline.com). Would an editor please reconsider adding these items to the article? These are just facts. I added extra citations in case this helps. See below. Thank you.

  1. Merely being true, or even verifiable, does not automatically make something suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia.[1] Articles should not become a complete exposition of all possible details, but rather, a summary of accepted knowledge regarding their subjects.[2]
  2. Verifiable and sourced statements like the ones from your request are treated with appropriate weight.[3] As your references are all informed by communications from, and press releases made by, the company itself, I'm afraid their particular weight is not enough to justify inclusion.
  3. Please take care not to duplicate other editor's signatures in your posts. Editors are free to use their own signatures, but not to reproduce the signatures of others. Thank you for you help on this.

February 2026 edit request

[edit]

Hi - I'd like to make some changes to update the article, and expand the product information, which is currently incomplete and outdated. This will also start to address the poor sourcing which got the article tagged. I have a conflict of interest, so I won't edit myself.
1) This simply swaps out a bad source in the infobox:

| key_people = Nicholas Cumins ([[Chief executive officer|CEO]])<ref>Bentley newsletter on CEO change, July 1st 2024: [https://www.bentley.com/news/nicholas-cumins-takes-charge-as-ceo-of-bentley-systems-ushering-in-a-new-era Nicholas Cumins Takes Charge As CEO Of Bentley Systems, Ushering In A New Era], Retrieved August 12, 2024</ref>

 Done STEMinfo (talk) 08:02, 3 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

2) This updates the revenue field in the infobox, using the company's annual report:

| revenue = {{profit}} {{US$|1 billion|link=yes}} (2021)
+
| revenue = {{profit}} {{US$|1.35 billion|link=yes}} (2024)<ref>https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1031308/000103130825000002/bsy-20241231.htm</ref>
Done I don't see headcount in the report, but if you add it, you can use it to update that number in the future as well. STEMinfo (talk) 08:02, 3 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

3) Please change founder to founders in the infobox.

 Done STEMinfo (talk) 08:02, 3 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

4) This updates the second paragraph of the lead, and removes the source, per MOS:LEADCITE.

In 2021, the company generated revenue of $1 billion in 186 countries.<ref>{{cite web |title=Newsroom |url=https://www.bentley.com/en/about-us/news |website=Bentley Systems |access-date=August 17, 2020}}</ref>

5) I'd like to move the history section to the top, just after the lead, as we see in most articles, and update it. It looks like a lot of text, but you can see from the textdiff that just three main things are changing: I removed the non-encyclopedic section about setting the initial price (first yellow section on the left), I moved Google into a partnerships section (see number 16 below) (second yellow section on the left) and added some early history (blue section on the right). I also fixed a verb tense.:

Done clever use of nowiki tags. I just updated my COI edit request guide to show other editors how to do this. STEMinfo (talk) 00:02, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

6) Please add these two paragraphs to the bottom of the history section, to update the history:

Annual recurring revenue exceeded $1 billion for the first time in 2022.[1]
Keith Bentley retired from his Chief Technology role in 2023,[2] and Greg Bentley retired in March 2024.[3] In July 2024, Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Cumins became the first non-family member to lead the company as CEO.[4]

Done except I the source doesn't support the claim that the $1B revenue was first reached in 2022. I changed the wording accordingly. STEMinfo (talk) 00:25, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

7) I'd like to rename the "Software" section "Products" to make it more general. I wrote a short section to summarize the products, to put under the new "Products" title.

Bentley Systems sells software for infrastructure modeling, simulation, construction, operations, and analytics. The company's Seequent subsidiary sells geological and geophysical modeling and analysis software.[5] Principle offerings include:

Done I also outdented the acquisitions section and kept it below the new products section, since that won't be of as much interest to the average reader. STEMinfo (talk) 00:25, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

8) The first products subsection should be "Engineering and simulation applications". The ref just before all the bullet points sources the different MicroStation software models.

Engineering and simulation applications

[edit]

MicroStation is computer-aided design (CAD) software used in infrastructure projects. It provides tools for drafting, modeling, and visualization. The platform includes features for referencing external files, conducting design reviews, and integrating geospatial data.[6] The company also provides Open applications for modelling and simulation based on MicroStation technology, designed to support workflows across infrastructure sectors. Modeling applications include:[7]

  • OpenRoads – for transportation infrastructure design
  • OpenRail – for railway design
  • OpenBridge Designer – for bridge design
  • OpenBuildings Designer, including Openbuildings Station Designer – for architectural and building design
  • OpenFlows Flood – for hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, analysis, design & operation[8]
  • OpenPlant – for process plant design and operations
  • OpenUtilities – for electrical systems and substations design
  • OpenSite Designer – for modeling and analysis of site design project

Open simulation applications include:

  • STAAD – structural analysis and design[9]
  • AutoPipe – for pipe stress analysis[10]
  • Power Line Systems (PLS) – for analysis and simulation of overhead electric power transmission lines and their structures[11]
Done your text had unicode characters instead of emdashes, but I fixed them. STEMinfo (talk) 01:15, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

9) I'd like to add the next product subsection to describe Bentley's Infrastructure Cloud. I source the three components of the cloud in the second paragraph.

Bentley Infrastructure Cloud

[edit]

Bentley Infrastructure Cloud is an integrated online application that combines ProjectWise software for project delivery, SYNCHRO for construction management, and AssetWise for asset operations.[12] It provides a unified data environment to improve collaboration.[13]

ProjectWise is information management software used to manage CAD, BIM, geospatial and project data from a variety of vendors.[14] AssetWise is asset lifecycle information management (ALIM) software used to manage project assets including documents, tags, associated metadata, and 3D models.[15] The company’s SYNCHRO software is used for 4D construction planning, scheduling, and productivity tracking, for teams on construction sites and in the office.[16]

Done your text had more unicode characters, and the cloud source didn't mention Synchro. I found one that did and added it. You'll want to check what you post more carefully before you submit. STEMinfo (talk) 01:15, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

10) The next product subsection describes Bentley's Asset Analytics portfolio:

Asset Analytics

[edit]

Bentley’s Asset Analytics portfolio applies artificial intelligence and digital twin workflows to improve infrastructure monitoring and maintenance.[17] The product integrates data captured with physical devices such as IoT sensors, drones, and dashcams, with digital twins to create a comprehensive view of infrastructure such as bridges, dams, and large transportation networks.[18]

The portfolio includes Blyncsy, AI-powered software that analyzes roadway conditions using image date and machine learning..[19]
 Done STEMinfo (talk) 02:45, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
11) The next product subsection describes the company's Seequent product:

Seequent

[edit]

Bentley's Seequent subsidiary develops and sells 3D modeling and analysis software for the geosciences, serving industries such mining, civil engineering, and energy industries.[20][21] Seequent's portfolio includes Leapfrog for 3D geological modeling and visualization, GeoStudio for geotechnical and geoenvironmental analysis, and Geosoft for 3D earth modeling and geoscience data management.[22] Seequent’s Evo cloud platform integrates geoscience data from Seequent and third-party applications into one platform.[23]

 Done STEMinfo (talk) 02:45, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

12) The next product subsection describes Bentley's iTwin platform:

iTwin Platform

[edit]

Bentley’s iTwin Platform is a cloud-native platform designed to enable digital twin workflows for infrastructure.[24] Digital twins representations allow customers to simulate physical assets such as roads, bridges, and buildings, while integrating engineering models, geospatial data, and enterprise information.[25]

The iTwin platform integrates with 3D Tiles, through Bentley's acquisition of Cesium, the creator of the 3D Tiles community standard.[26] This allows developers to combine 3D geospatial data with digital asset data to create scalable digital twins.[27]

 Done STEMinfo (talk) 02:45, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

13) The next product subsection describes Bentley's Cesium software:

Cesium

[edit]

Bentley Systems Cesium software is an open platform for building 3D geospatial applications.[28] Cesium also created the 3D Tiles community standard, an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard for streaming large 3D data sets.[29]

In 2025, Bentley started integrating its iTwin Platform with Cesium, beginning with adding iTwin Capture reality modeling services to Cesium.[30] The company also announced 3D tile integration with its Microstation product.[31]

 Done STEMinfo (talk) 02:45, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

14) I'd like to add a new section after products, to describe the company's AI efforts, which is a large part of current product investment.

==Artificial intelligence==

Bentley invests in artificial intelligence and machine learning, through internal research and development, and acquisitions, including AIworx (2018) and Blyncsy (2023).[32] Bentley software, including OpenRoads, OpenRail, and ProjectWise, includes the Bentley Copilot, a context-aware AI assistant that guides users through workflows, surfaces relevant documents, and can modify 3D models.[33]

OpenSite+ is Bentley's first application to incorporate generative AI. Its also offers AI-driven variants of its SYNCHRO (SYNCHRO+) and Substation (Substation+) applications.[34]

 Done STEMinfo (talk) 04:28, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

15) Right after that, I'd like to add a new operations section to summarize information about the company's operations.:

==Operations==

Bentley is headquartered in Exton, Pennsylvania.[35] Nicholas Cumins is the company's CEO.[36] The company has 5,200 employees in 40 countries, and in 2024 reported $1.35 Billion in revenue in 189 countries.[37][38]

16) After the operations section, I'd like to add a partnerships section, which will contain the current information about Microsoft and Google, and add a new NVIDIA section:

==Partnerships==

  • Google - In 2024 Bentley entered a strategic partnership with Google to integrate Google Maps Platform’s geospatial content, including Photorealistic 3D Tiles, into Bentley’s software. Bentley also integrated its Blyncy product and Google Maps Platform’s Imagery Insights, and also integrated Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles with its Microstation product.[39]
  • Microsoft - Since 2014, some products have been based on the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform.[40][41] In 2020 Bentley and Microsoft announced expansion of a strategic alliance to advance the use of digital twin in city planning and citizen engagement.[42]
  • NVIDIA - in 2021, Bentley announced a partnership with NVIDIA to bring infrastructure digital twins to NVIDIA Omniverse.[43]

17) There are two recent acquisitions that can be added, and one of the sources can be improved:

In September 2024, Bentley announced the acquisition of Cesium GS, Inc., a provider of 3D geospatial software applications and platforms.<ref>"Bentley Systems Acquires 3D Geospatial Company Cesium." 18) The Bentley Institute Press group no longer exists, so the entire section can be removed. It's unsourced, so it should be uncontroversial to remove, but you can also see that not only is there no mention of the press anymore on Bentley's web site, but the old Bentley Press link http://www.bentley.com/books now redirects to a software sales site.

That's it. This is a lot to process, but it will improve the article, the sources should be good, and hopefully I've explained the changes clearly enough. Thanks in advance for any volunteer help. Djzucker (talk) 22:23, 24 February 2026 (UTC) Djzucker (talk) 22:23, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Djzucker: I went through and did the edits. In the future, please check the coding to make sure you aren't introducing any unicode errors. Also, I know this was a big update since it's been so long since the article was last updated, but if you can make any new requests shorter and more frequent, it'll be less work for editors. Lastly, the article is tagged for having poor sources. I was pleased to see that this update fixed a few poor ones. Any blogs, company hosted content, or press releases are usually poor sources. If you want to find better sources and replace any of the poor ones, feel free to ping me and I can review to see if the tag can come off. This might help: Wikipedia:Verifiability#Reliable sources. STEMinfo (talk) 05:21, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
STEMinfo Thanks for doing this! I can't thank you enough. And thanks for the feedback. I'll work on improving the sourcing. I noticed one other thing. I forgot to ask if someone could update our logo. It’s all black now. The new one is Here. How do we update it? Thanks! Djzucker (talk) 16:42, 10 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request - May 2026

[edit]

Could someone help update the company revenue, scope of business and headcount, as shown below? The first request is to update the operations section, sourced with the company's 2025 annual report, and the corresponding numbers in the infobox. I won't put the refs in the infobox, since it's just summarizing the info being added to the article, which is already sourced. The second part is to replicate the updated info in the lead. I'm also slightly changing the wording to clarify that the info is based on the company's public reporting. Each section is numbered below. Pinging STEMinfo who kindly helped us before.

Edit Request - June 2026

[edit]

I'd like to add some new information, about the company's AI work. Could this be added to the end of Artificial Intelligence section? Pinging STEMinfo who kindly helped earlier, since the backlog is so long.

In May 2026, Bentley Systems published the STAAD MCP server to the open Model Context Protocol (MCP) Registry. This development connects AI agents directly with STAAD.Pro, allowing the different AI systems to easily access the application's structural validation functions and data.[1]

Thank you. Djzucker (talk) 19:48, 9 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
