According to the NY Times she died on 5 September 1994 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cheeztard (talkcontribs) 17:58, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can you share a source? Kingsacrificer (talk) 07:19, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I just checked this obituary published in NYT on Sept 6, 1994
It clearly states that Barbara Avedon died on Wednesday
Sept 6, 1994 was a Tuesday. So the preceding Wednesday would be Aug 31, 1994 - which is exactly as declared in the article.

Dead reference

[edit]

I noticed in this sentence, which talks about Barbara's son Joshua's company, the reference is a dead link. See: Barbara Avedon#cite note-13

I am confused on how to deal with this @Peaceray. Hope you can help me here.

1) Should her son's company even be mentioned, with the company's purpose?

2) Would it not be a WP:COI for @Javedon to be adding this line here?

3) If the link is dead, but existed in the past, what's the due course of action?

Thanks for your time! Kingsacrificer (talk) 07:24, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Kingsacrificer: Often one can find an archived version at the Internet Archive. Searching for http://paideia-eu.org/programs/paideia-project-incubator/project-incubator-staff/ at web.archive.org brought back web.archive.org/web/20250000000000*/http://paideia-eu.org/programs/paideia-project-incubator/project-incubator-staff/.
I chose one of the archived versions & formatted by using citer.toolforge.org.
This resulted in this:
<ref>{{cite web |title=Project-Incubator Staff |website=paideia-eu.org |date=2019-08-22 |url=http://www.paideia-eu.org:80/programs/paideia-project-incubator/project-incubator-staff/ |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20191026210412/http://www.paideia-eu.org:80/programs/paideia-project-incubator/project-incubator-staff/ |archive-date=2019-10-26 |url-status=dead |access-date=2025-09-10}}</ref>
I then tweaked it a bit so it appears like this in the footnote:
"Project-Incubator Staff". paideia-eu.org. 2019-08-22. Archived from the original on 2019-10-26.

Thank you for this. It helps to know how to access and cite old pages.
But my other concern still remains. Should this inclusion not be considered WP:COI and WP:NOTRS?
Either way, how is her son's company's purpose relevant to her biographical page?
According to WP:REL, it comes under the Relevance level "Lower" classification, and hence I believe shouldn't be included at all. Kingsacrificer (talk) 08:01, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

First Husband Details

[edit]

@Javedon In the Personal life section, Barbara Avedon#Personal life, it is stated that Barbara married thrice, but only the name of her second and third husbands have been mentioned in the paragraph as well as in the infobox.

Do you have any information pertaining to this? Kingsacrificer (talk) 07:26, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The obituary page from the Independent (cited as the first source in the article) only mentions two husbands.
Javedon, you made the change of mentioning she had married thrice. Since you are her son, I tend to believe you but am unsure about how to deal with this as Wikipedia needs sources to corroborate such statements.
Do you have any credible source that mentions she married thrice? Kingsacrificer (talk) 09:05, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm reverting this to 'two husbands' simply due to lack of a citable source. Please provide a better source if possible. Unfortunately, that is how Wikipedia works. WP:verifiability Kingsacrificer (talk) 13:02, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I don't know much about the first marriage - it didn't last long (she was 19 and dying to get away from her parents). There are notes about it on some genealogy sites so I know the wedding date: May 10, 1950. Not sure if that counts as a credible source. Javedon (talk) 23:35, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can you share the link to the notes? Once received, I'll ask about this on the Teahouse to see if it's verifiable as a credible source. Kingsacrificer (talk) 10:25, 7 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Date

[edit]

Hi @Javedon

You have changed Barbara's birth date from 14 June 1925 to 29 June 1930. The linked Independent source states the former as her birth date. Any reliable source to prove that the latter was her actual birth date? Kingsacrificer (talk) 10:38, 7 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
