Some references that could be used

What does "Relevant Year" mean?

[edit]

In the "List of notable missing topics", it's ambiguous what does "relevant year" mean. For some of the listed missing topics, it seems clear that the year refers to the time when those incidents took place, but for many others, this does not match up. Some of the listed missing topics are not even events, which means they intrinsically do not have a date. Should we just delete the "relevant year" column? Or, is there a clearer definition of that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jordanblocker (talkcontribs) 02:34, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the section altogether. It was original research. --MarioGom (talk) 16:50, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Major rewrite

[edit]

I have applied a major rewrite to the article ([1]). It is now sourced, exclusively, to secondary sources. I removed all material that was unreferenced or that contained references to Baidu Baike (WP:PRIMARY), as well as any original research. Sections on censorship and copyright infringement are, hopefully, more clear and respecting due weight. --MarioGom (talk) 15:56, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Potential source

[edit]

[2] probably one of the most comprehensive writings about Baidu Baike in both English and Chinese, though as an apparent self-published blog (though by an academic), it may be more useful for the sources it cites than the article itself. Hemiauchenia (talk) 14:44, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

More potential sources:[3] [4] Hemiauchenia (talk) 13:44, 28 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

https://baike.baidu.com/reference/ = website archiving service ?

[edit]

Per WP:BAIDUBAIKE, (written in 2020): The Baidu Baike domain also includes a website archiving service (baike.baidu.com/reference), and https://www.google.com/search?q=site:baike.baidu.com/reference seems to confirm this. I'm unable to find further info about it. RememberOrwell (talk) 10:52, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I already added this to the history section over 12 hours before you made this post using the very same SCMP source. Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:16, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

I do not think BaiduWiki is separately notable from Baidu Baike. There has been no coverage of BaiduWiki except noting the fact it launched. It can be entirely covered in this article. Hemiauchenia (talk) 23:19, 25 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer BaiduWiki to remain a separated article. The reasons include:
By the way, BaiduWiki has passed an official review after improvement based on suggestions by user:Mariamnei. Thank you all. Ctxz2323 (talk) 02:47, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Ctxz2323 and @Hemiauchenia - The current version is better than the original article that I first reviewed, so I was willing to say that it passes notability per WP:GNG because of several independent sources mentioned in the article and mark it as reviewed. That being said, I have no opinion if it should be a stand alone article and we'll see what happens in this discussion.
The fact that more information may be available in the future is irrelevant to the discussion of if it is currently notable as a stand alone article. Have a great day! Mariamnei (talk) 12:01, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reminding. I have added contents in the History section, especially on the events happening after BaiduWiki's launch. Ctxz2323 (talk) 01:15, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
BaiduWiki has its own Logo. That may be another reason for a separated wiki page. Ctxz2323 (talk) 07:58, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

We need at least 3 articles for Baidu Baike now

[edit]

The first sentence on page Baidu Baike "Baidu Baike (/ˈbaɪduː ˈbaɪkə/; Chinese: 百度百科; pinyin: Bǎidù Bǎikē; lit. 'Baidu Encyclopedia', also known as BaiduWiki internationally) is a semi-regulated Chinese-language collaborative online encyclopedia owned by the Chinese technology company Baidu." is wrong! Because BaiduWiki is multilingual, not Chinese monolingual.

In addition to its traditional Chinese version, Baidu Baike has recently launched its international multilingual version BaiduWiki. Accordingly, we now needs 3 separated pages for

  1. Baidu Baike Chinese for the traditional Chinese version
  2. BaiduWiki for the international multilingual version, may develop into one page per language in the future
  3. Baidu Baike for the Baike family, linking to different language versions,

just like what happened to Wikipedia where we have pages Wikipedia, Wikipedia English, Wikipedia Chinese, etc. Ctxz2323 (talk) 03:46, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
