Passengers 2016

Biblical context
[edit]Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? RobertFULL30 (talk) 12:38, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
In popular culture section
[edit]Both the references to Arcturus in Fallout 4 and Ninjago are lacking citations currently. Are both of these references in popular culture needed on the page - are popular culture sections meant to be total repositories of every reference to a subject, or does the impact need to be demonstrably large or themes of the reference need to be closely tied to the subject of the article? Is there more information anyone can provide about Ninjago and the character of Arcturus? The Fallout 4 reference seems very surface level to me. Cathedral Stork (talk) 23:33, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
- Fictional references should really be quite notable to be in this article. Unfortunately, fan cruft is usually regarded as highly notable by the fans. There used to be an article at Stars and planetary systems in fiction where this cruft all accumulated, but it was more-or-less unilaterally culled and the tracks fairly well covered (see WP:Articles for deletion/Stars and planetary systems in fiction for a discussion resulting in keep and Extrasolar planets in fiction where the history of that article can now be found), so now all the cruft ends up here (and in other star articles). - Even Wikipedia:WikiProject Popular culture says, "If we come across information that is unlikely to be verifiable, we shall delete it." This means WP:INDEPENDENT sources, naturally. Praemonitus (talk) 17:12, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
Etymology
[edit]In the Nomenclature section, the article says: "The traditional name Arcturus is Latinised from the ancient Greek Ἀρκτοῦρος (Arktouros) and means "Guardian of the Bear", ultimately from ἄρκτος (arktos), "bear" and οὖρος (ouros), "watcher, guardian"." However, in the Cultural significance section: "The folk-etymology connecting the star name with the bears (Greek: ἄρκτος, arktos) was probably invented much later." Which is it? (FWIW, Etymonline goes with the former: https://www.etymonline.com/word/Arcturus) SSSheridan (talk) 22:07, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
