Subject origin is documented.

[edit]

Hey @Obinna Tony, I noticed you made this page and gave Agidi an Igbo origin. I presume your Info was from the image caption, it is however incorrect. It is documented earliest in pre-nigeria yoruba sources both in 1913 and 1853. Scholarship sources also cite it as one of several Yoruba foods borrowed by the Igbo.

"A lot of words were borrowed from Yoruba food culture. These are traditional Yoruba foods which are now being eaten by Igbo people but do not have Igbo origin.
Table 13: Donated words associated food
Agidi" [1]

I've made changes to reflect this accurately. Sohvyan (talk) 16:41, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I mean, you can edit the article to add the Yoruba origin but "Agidi" is not only a Yoruba food. And the source doesn't support this conjecture. I know "agidi" in yoruba to mean "stubborness." Obinna Tony (talk) 16:50, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I literally just gave you a quote from a reliable source that supports the changes.
"These are traditional Yoruba foods which are now being eaten by Igbo people but do not have Igbo origin."
And my changes still say it is eaten by others.
Agidi means a lot of things, including a prepared meal from corn as noted as a staple food in the yoruba dictionary as far back as both the 1913 and 1853 dictionaries. Check the sources to confirm it yourself, I provided links. You shouldn't be reverting my changes without a legitimate reason. Sohvyan (talk) 16:59, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. Fixed it. I was using Find on my computer rather than CTRL F. Obinna Tony (talk) 17:02, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, thank you. Sohvyan (talk) 17:06, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It should be merged with "Eko" article.

[edit]

Given that "Eko" is the most popular of the names in Nigeria. Dolpina (talk) 14:10, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose... on the contrary, in the Nigerian contest, "Agidi" is more popular. No need to merge. However, if it is to be merged, "Eko" should be merged into "Agidi" Lucy Iwuala (talk) 20:49, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That's the opposite actually, but it was a proposal which will need to be proved. Dolpina (talk) 22:09, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There was an agreement you just broke with yoir edits. Just noticing. Dolpina (talk) 22:10, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, I'm very well aware of the agreement, hence my 'edit' and not 'revert' Lucy Iwuala (talk) 23:11, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
the eastern side of Nigeria is in the southern region. No need to be repetitive. Dolpina (talk) 22:15, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
the last time I check, South and East are two opposite, hence, my spcification. Lucy Iwuala (talk) 23:10, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
In the Nigerian context, we all know that the South refers to the geopolitical zones of the South south, south east and south west. If you want to cite eastern for some reason, add source. This is bothering on semantics and might makenthe article more cumbersome than needed when the context is already there. There is a wiki rule that says something like trust the intelligence of the reader. I'll edit to this comment if I find it. Aha, found it

Thanks for sharing. Will read through Lucy Iwuala (talk) 00:21, 12 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Agidi is more popular than Eko. A simple online search yields more results for Agidi than Eko. Also, few articles on Eko attach Agidi first. Plus no one in the East knows what Eko means and I believe vice versa. East, South and West are different cardinal points geographically, culturally and sociopolitically. The regions are simply different. Deetailz (talk) 05:31, 12 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree. Eko has more searches and higher in the google rankings than agidi but okay... Dolpina (talk) 12:40, 12 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
