Three million or three billion?
[edit]> Gravitational influence from Jupiter and Saturn over the course of three million
Is this a typo for three billion? If not, a citation seems needed. AgingDisgracefully (talk) 22:53, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- @AgingDisgracefully: The source at the end of the paragraph indeed backs up that it's 3 million. Double sharp (talk) 07:22, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Sulfur on Ceres
[edit]Riddle me this. Two quotes from the article:
- and sulfur, despite being suggested by Hubble UV observations, was not detected by Dawn
- On 9 December 2015, NASA scientists reported that the bright spots on Ceres may be related to a type of salt, particularly a form of brine containing magnesium sulfate
78.22.98.78 (talk) 20:31, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- The first refers to the elemental sulfur and sulfur dioxide. The second to a sulfur salt. Ruslik_Zero 15:11, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
Orientation of the main image of Ceres
[edit]I noticed that the main image of Ceres is "North is left" instead of "North is up".
Should we rotate the image? IapetusCallistus (talk) 12:42, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

Too much information!
[edit]Sorry, this (wikipedia) is supposed to be for the general public to get a first idea. It is not meant to be a highly specialized catalogue for experts. About 80% of the information here, especially in the top right box could esily be left away in my opinion. ~2025-42129-41 (talk) 09:03, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Misspelling in quote?
[edit]The quote "Does it then hold of celestial bodies as well as of the Earth, that the stronger chafe the weaker, and are Jupiter and Saturn destined to plunder forever?" is taken verbatim from a source by Michael Hoskins that cites Cosmological Letters. Although Hoskins' quote includes "chafe", I suspect this might be a mistake for "chaſe" ("chase"), which would make more sense. Can anyone check the original source to confirm? — Paul G (talk) 07:13, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
- I read it as a clever use of chafe, in the sense of the more massive bodies vexing or harrying the lighter ones; and this definition seems to agree. Eric talk 07:50, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
