Portnyagin (Russian: Портнягин), feminine: Portnyagina, is a Russian surname derived from the occupation of portnyaga, portnoy, meaning tailor. A variant of this surname is Pontryagin, explained the selectivity of the mutual positions of consonants in Russian language.[1]
