Magicore Anomala is an upcoming game developed by Team Salvato, the developers of Doki Doki Literature Club. Magicore Anomala is a bullet hell written in m68k assembly for the 1985 Amiga. Lead Developer Dan Salvato has said that upon release the game will be playable on modern computers via emulation.[1]

Gameplay

[edit]

Magicore Anomala is a story based 2d bullet hell and platformer featuring pixel art and a dialog system.

Development

[edit]

Gameplay was originally shown during fan game marathon 2022. [2] The game was later mentioned on September 5th 2022 during a Pax West 2022 exhibit by Dan Salvato where he discussed modern production of retro games[3]. Subsequent demos were shown at Amiga developer conference Amiwest in 2023 [2] and 2024(source?). On September 14th 2025, Dan Salvato gave a talk on retro gaming and his motivations behind creating a modern retro game at Oakland’s Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment. [4]

In August 2025 a new demo was shown at Vintage Computer Festival West. [5]

In 2024, Dan Salvato published a series of blogs to his personal page detailing the development of the game. [6]

Design

[edit]

The Amiga has a palette of 32 colors slots with 8 color slots reserved for background. The game bypasses this restriction by editing the color palette register in between drawing horizontal lines of pixels, which restricts it to 8 unique colors per horizontal line. [6]
