Are you here because you received a notification that someone mentioned your name, but you can't see your name in the diff? This happens when people transclude pages that contain a link to your userpage. Look for {{page name}} in the diff. |
Missing major example
[edit]In the lead, we have a long list of examples with "You can "mention" a user called Example by making an..." but we don't mention how to do it in the modern, code-light VE talk page style, i.e by clocking the person+ button. When did Echo/Pings start?
[edit]Does anyone have (with a source!) a date for when Echo was rolled out and possible the dates for when various features were added? It can help to know this when looking back... Carcharoth (talk) 12:25, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- Found it: March 2013: Echo: A new notification system for Wikipedia - 7 February 2013 by Fabrice Florin. Carcharoth (talk) 12:31, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Carcharoth: For English Wikipedia specifically, it was 30 April 2013. --Redrose64 đš (talk) 16:05, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

How do I change the color of my name
[edit]I was wondering how to change the font and color of my name. How do I do that? YourLocalZakkFromSomewhere (talk) 18:46, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
notifications and expired temporary accounts
[edit]Simple question: Does the notifications system in any way check whether temporary accounts are expired?
How about temporary accounts where the user has exited the session?
CapnZapp (talk) 21:11, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- TAs where the user has exited the session will be exactly the same as registered users who have logged out: the notification is sent, and will cause the counter to be come coloured the next time the TA is on Wikipedia. --Redrose64 đš (talk) 13:41, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I don't understand. Or rather, I sort of understand you assume you can... resume....? the session ("log back in"-ish) of a temporary account, but every document and information notice tells us that once you exit the session that TA becomes permanently inaccessible. (For registered accounts it makes perfect sense to save notifications for the next time the user logs on or in.) So... yeah. CapnZapp (talk) 19:32, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
- Exiting a session doesn't mean closing the browser or turning the device off. It is a conscious action, and occurs when you click the
icon (found to the right of the bell and TV screen icons), and select "Exit session" from the dropdown (third of three options, the first two being "Talk" and "Contributions"). It's a bit like Special:Logout, except that you can't log in again with the same username. So long asd this isn't used, the notifications will be availble to view . --Redrose64 đš (talk) 17:58, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
- You appear to answer the newbie question "what does 'exit the session' mean and how do I do it?" which isn't what I'm asking. If I didn't know you were an established user, User:Redrose64, I would in addition interpret you as claiming temporary account users can re-enter the session mirroring how registered users can log back in. But I will assume you know they can't: Once you have exited the session of a TA that TA is permanently inaccessible.
- As for my original question I have been informed that the notification system is planned to check whether temporary accounts are expired and bounce the notification with an error message if that is the case (T375773). I have asked over at mw:Talk:Trust and Safety Product/Temporary Accounts#ending the session vs expiring the account whether TAs whose session has been exited will be treated the same way.
