Help:Reporting issues on other wikis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sometimes a user reports something on the English Wikipedia that happened somewhere that the English Wikipedia has no control over. This includes but is not limited to vandalism, copyright violations, illegal activity, software bugs, and factual errors. This help page exists to try to send those reports about other wikis somewhere where they can be addressed.

For issues that do happen on the English Wikipedia start here: Help:Contents.

There are three general classes of these reports: Websites that have no connection to Wikipedia (Wikileaks, Brickipedia, Consumer Rights Wiki), non-English Wikipedia projects (for example: German Wikipedia, Russian Wikiquote, Korean Wiktionary), and other Wikipedia projects that have English language versions (Wiktionary, Wikimedia Commons, Wikiquote, Meta-Wiki).

If an issue affects multiple Wikimedia projects at the same time (possibly including English Wikipedia), a report can be submitted via Meta-Wiki. Reports of cross-wiki spam can be submitted to Meta-Wiki's Antispam Project. Reports concerning cross-wiki abuse accounts can be submitted to Steward requests/Global. Reports of vandalism on wikis with few or no administrators, cross-wiki vandalism, and cases of long-term abuse can be submitted to Global sysops/Requests.

Websites that have no connection to Wikipedia

[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation (which backs Wikipedia) has no control over a number of other websites that may be encyclopedias, present material first created for Wikipedia, or have "Wiki-" or "-pedia" in their names.

Some websites purposely look like Wikipedia: if you are unsure whether a website is related, start at www.wikipedia.org (note the "www." instead of "en." at the start), whose upper half presents all the other Wikipedias (look within it for "Read Wikipedia in your language") and whose lower half links to the other Wikimedia websites (Commons, Wiktionary, etc).

Some search engines show material from Wikipedia in a preview, and we can do nothing if those previews are inaccurate or out of date. Instead of complaining about something you saw on Google, you should find it on Wikipedia and complain about that instead.

Non-English Wikipedia projects

[edit]

The English Wikipedia has no control over Wikipedia projects in other languages.

If possible, the best way to deal with issues on non-English Wikipedia projects is to report the issue on the project's web page using the project's language. Use the search function to find the right place to file a report. Many noticeboards have interlanguage links to equivalent pages at the top or side of the page.
