Ty Gordon is an American actor, writer, and director. He is best known for the 2022 crime thriller Never Forgotten, which he wrote, directed, and starred in. His work has largely been made through Wooden Finger Studios, the production company he runs with his frequent collaborators Robert Thomas Preston and Andrew John.
Early life Gordon has said his interest in storytelling goes back to childhood. He has recounted that around the age of twelve he met an aunt he had never known, and the two of them sat down and wrote a murder mystery together, with her typing as he talked. He has pointed to that afternoon as the moment he realized he wanted to keep telling stories.
Career One of Gordon's earliest feature credits came as an executive producer on Obscura, a crime mystery directed by Robert Thomas Preston and released in 2020. The film, an early Wooden Finger Studios production, follows a photographer named Andrew Kaleen who stumbles into a string of murders laid out through clues hidden in 35 mm film. It established the core group of collaborators, Gordon, Preston, and Andrew John, who would go on to make several more films together.
Gordon developed Never Forgotten over several years before it went into production. By his own account, the idea came out of a nightmare he couldn't shake, and he eventually pitched it to Preston and John, who came aboard as co-stars. The film follows three childhood friends, Nick, Donny, and Emile, living in the same small town they grew up in. As their ten-year high school reunion approaches, a buried secret resurfaces and begins pulling their friendship and their grip on reality apart. Gordon played Nick, a writer he has described as the most tragic of the three, a man who mostly just wants his old life back.
He took an unusually hands-on approach to the production, writing, directing, and acting at once, and has said the lack of separation between those roles let the script stay loose enough to improvise and rework scenes during filming. The movie was made for an estimated $350,000 and shot in part in Anaheim, California. It received a U.S. theatrical release on September 30, 2022, and later landed on Prime Video.
In 2025 Gordon starred in Method, a thriller directed by Preston, on which Gordon also served as executive producer. He plays Chris, a struggling actor on the verge of giving up on Hollywood who is talked into joining a mysterious acting program by a friend, only to find himself trapped in a long night where his worst fears start to play out as reality. Andrew John again appears alongside him, with Elijah Kirkland-Cuffee rounding out the principal cast.
Gordon's other credits include the short film Harm (where he is billed as Tyler Gordon) and The Unknown Country (2022), along with Farewelling (2023), largely in producing capacities. He has said he has a backlog of scripts he's been holding onto for years, some of which are in the pipeline at Wooden Finger Studios, and that on future projects he hopes to wear fewer hats and focus more squarely on either acting or directing.
Style and influences Gordon has spoken about the strange double-consciousness of directing himself, having to stay fully present in a scene as an actor while also tracking what the scene needs from the outside as a director. He has cited Martin Scorsese's gangster pictures and Ben Affleck's The Town as touchstones, drawn in particular to Affleck as a model of an actor-filmmaker wearing several hats at once. He framed Never Forgotten as a film with something on its mind, pointing to its handling of mental health, with characters who variously seek out therapy, consider it, or talk each other out of it. The film's tagline is "Some secrets have the power to destroy you.
