The company provides electronic data interchange (EDI), e-invoicing, vendor-managed inventory (VMI), business-to-business integration, and digital commerce solutions that connect retailers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, logistics providers and marketplaces.

Headquartered in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, TrueCommerce serves customers across North America, Europe and other international markets through a cloud-based network that enables the electronic exchange of business documents and supply chain data. The company has expanded through a series of acquisitions and operates offices in the United States, United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany and other locations.

History

[edit]
Founding and early years
[edit]

TrueCommerce was founded in Pennsylvania in 1995 as a provider of electronic data interchange (EDI) software and services. During the growth of business-to-business electronic commerce in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the company focused on helping businesses automate the exchange of purchase orders, invoices, shipping notices and other supply chain documents.

In 2013, TrueCommerce merged with Accellos Holdings, a supply chain software group backed by private-equity firm Accel‑KKR. The transaction expanded the company's EDI network, increased its geographic reach and provided access to additional capital for future acquisitions.

Under Accellos ownership, the company expanded its cloud-based EDI capabilities and developed a broader supply chain connectivity platform serving retailers, manufacturers, distributors and logistics providers.

Expansion through acquisitions
[edit]

Beginning in the late 2010s, TrueCommerce pursued a growth strategy focused on expanding its supply chain network, integration capabilities and international presence through acquisitions.

In 2015, TrueCommerce acquired WeSupply, a provider of managed EDI and business-to-business integration services in the United Kingdom. The same year, the company acquired Nexternal, a provider of e-commerce software, expanding its digital capabilities and strengthening its presence in the North American market.

In 2016, Truecommerce became part of HighJump, a supply chain software provider with operations across North America and Europe. The transaction expanded the company’s supply chain software capabilities and strengthened its international presence.

In 2017, the company acquired Datalliance, a provider of vendor-managed inventory (VMI) and demand forecasting software. The acquisition expanded TrueCommerce's offerings beyond EDI and into inventory optimization and supplier collaboration.

In 2018, TrueCommerce acquired RedTail Solutions, a provider of cloud-based integration and EDI solutions for suppliers, distributors and manufacturers in the food and consumer goods industries. Industry publications reported that the acquisition strengthened TrueCommerce's position in the grocery, foodservice and consumer products sectors.

In 2019, TrueCommerce acquired ecUtopia, a supply chain connectivity provider serving medium-sized businesses; a case study by SupplyChainBrain reported that TrueCommerce, “a veteran provider of tools for supply‑chain and trading‑partner connectivity,” acquired ecUtopia in 2019. Later the same year, the company acquired Netalogue, a United Kingdom-based provider of business-to-business e-commerce software. SupplyChainBrain reported that the Netalogue acquisition was intended to strengthen TrueCommerce’s unified commerce network, and Refrigerated & Frozen Foods noted that the deal expanded capabilities to serve more than 12.800 customers worldwide.

In 2020 TrueCommerce acquired B2BGateway, a provider of business‑to‑business integration and EDI services. A DC Velocity article described the move as part of a strategy to expand unified commerce capabilities. Later that year, private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS) acquired TrueCommerce from Accel-KKR. Following the transaction, Accel-KKR retained a minority ownership stake. An article in IT Reseller reported the transaction, quoting TrueCommerce chief executive Michael Cornell and a WCAS general partner.

In 2021, TrueCommerce acquired DiCentral, a Texas‑based provider of business‑to‑business integration and application programming interface (API) solutions. Independent trade journals reported that DiCentral added 30.000 connections and nearly 5.000 customers to the TrueCommerce network. DC Velocity wrote that the acquisition would double TrueCommerce’s workforce to about 1.300 employees and expand the network to about 160.000 connections and 18.000 customers. A merger summary in Inbound Logistics also listed the DiCentral deal among 2021 supply‑chain acquisitions.

In 2022, TrueCommerce expanded its presence into the Asia-Pacific region as part of its strategy to support multinational customers and strengthen its global supply chain connectivity network.

International expansion
[edit]

Through its acquisitions of Atlas Products International, WeSupply, Compello, DiCentral and related businesses, TrueCommerce expanded its operations across Europe and established a significant presence in the United Kingdom, Denmark and Germany.

The company's European operations trace their origins to several established EDI and business integration providers, including Atlas Products International and WeSupply in the United Kingdom, Client Computing and Compello in the Nordic region, GLI Gesellschaft für Logistik und Informationssysteme mbH, and DiCentral in Germany.

Through these acquisitions, TrueCommerce unified a number of regional businesses under a single brand, establishing a pan-European provider of EDI, API integration, e-invoicing and supply chain connectivity services.

TrueCommerce in the United Kingdom

[edit]

TrueCommerce's presence in the United Kingdom developed through a series of acquisitions that expanded the company's European operations and customer base.

In 2014, HighJump Software, then-owner of the TrueCommerce EDI business, acquired Atlas Products International, a Manchester-based provider of EDI, electronic invoicing and secure data exchange services. Atlas had established trading partner relationships across the United Kingdom and Ireland and brought additional expertise in retail and supply chain communications.

In 2015, TrueCommerce further expanded its UK footprint through the acquisition of WeSupply. Founded in 2000, WeSupply specialised in outsourced EDI solutions that facilitated electronic communication between retailers, suppliers and other trading partners. The company served organisations across a range of sectors, including retail, building, and manufacturing.

The acquisitions strengthened TrueCommerce's position in the UK market and expanded its European trading partner network. Over time, the United Kingdom became one of the company's principal European markets and a centre for its EDI, digital commerce and supply chain connectivity operations.

TrueCommerce's UK headquarters are located in Coventry, England, and support customers across the United Kingdom, Ireland and wider European markets.

TrueCommerce in Denmark

[edit]

TrueCommerce's presence in Denmark originates from the Nordic EDI and business integration sector.

The Danish business developed through Client Computing, a Norwegian technology company that provided electronic data interchange (EDI), enterprise integration and data communication solutions to organisations across Scandinavia. The company served industries including retail, logistics, telecommunications and energy, establishing a significant presence in the Nordic integration software market.

In 2011, Client Computing became part of the Compello Group, creating a larger Nordic provider of EDI, e-invoicing and business integration services. Through this merger, the Danish operations became part of a wider network serving customers throughout Northern Europe.

The Danish business later became part of DiCentral's European organisation following DiCentral's acquisition of Compello. When TrueCommerce acquired DiCentral in 2021, the Danish operations were integrated into the wider TrueCommerce network. The acquisition expanded TrueCommerce's presence in the Nordic region and added expertise in EDI, e-invoicing and enterprise integration technologies.

Denmark subsequently became an important hub for TrueCommerce's Nordic operations. The company maintains its Danish headquarters in Birkerød and supports customers throughout Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. The Danish business also contributes expertise in electronic invoicing, supply chain integration and regulatory compliance requirements across the Nordic markets.

TrueCommerce in Germany

[edit]

TrueCommerce Germany traces its origins to GLI Gesellschaft für Logistik und Informationssysteme mbH, founded in Germany in 1983 by Dr. Heiko Mehnen.

During the 1980s, GLI became an early participant in the development of electronic data interchange technologies. In 1986, GLI developed what the company describes as the world's first EDIFACT converter, contributing to the adoption and standardisation of electronic data interchange across Germany and Europe. The company became an early participant in the development of EDI technologies and played a role in the wider adoption of the EDIFACT standard.

In 2006, GLI became part of Client Computing, strengthening the group's presence in the German-speaking market. Following the formation of the Compello Group in 2011, the business operated as Compello GmbH and provided EDI and enterprise application integration (EAI) solutions to customers throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 2018, Compello GmbH was acquired by the U.S.-based supply chain integration provider DiCentral, expanding its access to global EDI and supply chain technologies. Following TrueCommerce's acquisition of DiCentral, the German business became part of TrueCommerce and was rebranded as TrueCommerce Germany in 2023.

Germany represents one of TrueCommerce's largest operations in continental Europe and serves customers throughout the DACH region. The company maintains its German headquarters in Unterföhring, near Munich, and supports organisations across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Through its historical roots in GLI and Compello, the German business remains one of the longest-established parts of TrueCommerce's European operations.
