Sahil Adeem (ساحل عدیم; born 10 October 1984) is a Pakistani public speaker, religious commentator, and behavioral trainer known for lectures on Islam, psychology, and social issues.[1][2] He has gained prominence through social media and public appearances, where he addresses topics such as women in Islam, emotional intelligence, and eschatology.[3][4] His interpretations of certain religious topics have generated public debate and attracted both support and criticism.[1][5][6]

Adeem is the son of Urdu poet and playwright Adeem Hashmi.[7][8][2] His work often emphasizes critical thinking and psychological approaches to religious texts.[1][9] Adeem has conducted workshops on leadership and management, including sessions for educational institutions.[10] Some of Adeem's public statements have led to political criticism and legal proceedings, including assembly resolutions, and legal proceedings related to comments about women and the Sindhi community.[11][12][4]

Career

[edit]

Adeem has appeared on television programs and public forums discussing social and religious issues. In seminars, he has spoken on topics including women in Islam, emotional well-being, leadership, and social issues.[7][8][13][14] He conducted a workshop on management and leadership capacity building for Roots International Schools in 2018. In 2022, he spoke at Fatima Jinnah Women University on emotional freedom and women in Islam.[8][15][16]

Controversies

[edit]

During a television appearance in July 2024, Adeem stated that 95% of women in Pakistan were "Islamically illiterate", prompting criticism and a resolution in the Sindh Assembly condemning the remarks.[13][17][18][19]

Additionally, Adeem faced legal action over remarks about the Sindhi community. He obtained protective bail from the Islamabad High Court for 15 days in July 2024. In September 2024, a Karachi court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant in connection with the case.[20][21][22][23]
