Proximath is a free daily word game developed by Adam Smith and launched on 6 June 2026. Players guess a hidden word using clues based on alphabet distance — each letter A to Z is assigned a number value (A=1, B=2, through to Z=26), and tiles reveal how far each guessed letter is from the correct one and which direction to go in the alphabet.

Gameplay

[edit]

Proximath offers three daily challenges at increasing difficulty. The Morning mode uses five letters and provides full directional clues. The Midday mode uses six letters with reduced clues. The Evening mode uses seven letters with no directional arrows. Each mode resets at a different time — midnight, noon and 6pm UK time respectively.

The game uses a five-colour tile system based on alphabet distance:

  • Green — exact match
  • Blue — one step away
  • Yellow — two to five steps away
  • Orange — six to ten steps away
  • Red — eleven or more steps away

Reception

[edit]

Proximath was featured by KrispiTech in June 2026, which reported on the game's development and noted a 53% day-two retention rate.[1]
