Prefixbox is a cloud-based, B2B SaaS company, developing AI-powered product search, product discovery and AI Agent solutions for E-commerce retailers, headquartered in Budapest.[1]
History
[edit]The company was founded by István Simon, Dávid Kis, and András Szatmáry in 2014, a team with roots in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine. Its first backer was Péter Balogh, founder of navigation software firm NNG.[2]
In 2019, Prefixbox received €500,000 in seed funding from Budapest-based venture capital firm Euroventures, which it used to expand into Poland and double its Budapest team.[3] A follow-on round of €1.5 million from Euroventures followed in March 2021, by which point the team had grown to 30 people and Poland accounted for 30% of total revenue.[4] In July 2023, a Series A round of €2 million, again led by Euroventures, brought total disclosed funding to approximately $4.82 million.[5]
In October 2024, Prefixbox launched its AI Search & Filter application on the Shopify App Store. The app earned the "Built for Shopify" badge in 2025, the first enterprise search provider to receive the designation.[6]
That same year, Prefixbox was included in the BÉT50 list, a program by the Budapest Stock Exchange recognizing fifty Hungarian companies for business achievement.[2]
About the product
[edit]Prefixbox's product suite includes AI Search, AI Agent, and product recommendations. Its search engine combines vector search, large language models, and keyword search to interpret natural language queries and return relevant product results. The platform integrates with major e-commerce platforms including Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Magento, and WooCommerce.
