NupekoTV is an independent online newspaper based in Lafiagi, Kwara State, Nigeria. Founded in 2021, NupekoTV publishes political news, public affairs commentary and articles relating to Nupe and African culture.[1]

History

[edit]

In March 2026, NupekoTV relaunched its official website after previously publishing primarily through its social media platforms. According to Factual Times, the relaunch provided a dedicated website for the platform's news reports, commentary and coverage of governance, insecurity, youth affairs, culture and community development.[2]

[edit]

In October 2025, NupekoTV came under public attention following a defamation case arising from a Facebook post concerning the Kwara State Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade.[3]

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) condemned what it described as a clampdown on NupekoTV, saying the case represented an attempt to intimidate media organizations through the use of defamation laws.[4]

In October 2025, legal proceedings involving NupekoTV continued after an Ilorin Magistrate Court granted bail in a defamation case filed by the Kwara State Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade.[5]

Awards and recognition

[edit]

In 2025, NupekoTV received an Award of Appreciation from the Initial Language Legacy and Culture (ILLEC) in recognition of its contribution to the promotion of the Nupe language.[6]
