MosChip Technologies Limited (formerly MosChip Semiconductor Technology Limited) is an Indian publicly traded semiconductor design and product engineering services company headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The company provides chip design, connected and IoT-enabled product design and development, and IP services to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and fabless semiconductor companies.[1] It serves companies across India and international markets. MosChip is listed both on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE).[2]

History

MosChip Semiconductor Technology Private Limited was incorporated on 27 July 1999 in Hyderabad, Telangana.[3]

The foundation of MosChip Technologies is closely associated with the professional trajectory of K. Ramachandra Reddy, who served as the first CEO. Ramachandra Reddy's background provided a technical and entrepreneurial bridge between the established semiconductor ecosystem of Silicon Valley and the emerging technical talent in India.[4]

According to the Deccan Chronicle, the company was the only publicly traded fabless semiconductor company based in India.[5] Adopting the fabless model, under which chip design is carried out internally while outsourcing the fabrication of silicon with global foundries.

MosChip expanded its operations outside India through the acquisition of NetMos Technology Corporation, a California-based semiconductor design services company, specializing in PCI technology.[6]

In 2003, the company amalgamated Verasity Technologies Inc., a California-based corporation, into its U.S. operations.[7][8] In the same year, M. Rammohan Rao was appointed to the company’s board following the resignation of V. Ramesh.[9]

The operations of the company’s Noida unit were transferred in 2004 to improve management control. During 2005–06, the company carried forward its operations in India through its 100% export-oriented unit registered with the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) in Hyderabad.[10]

Between 2016 and 2018, MosChip acquired ElitePlus Semiconductor Technologies, Orange Semiconductors, and Maven Systems Pvt. Ltd.[11] These acquisitions brought design verification, mixed-signal design, embedded software, and IoT engineering expertise.[12] In 2017, K. Ramachandra Reddy stepped down as CEO and continued as chairman. Damodar Rao Gummadapu was appointed as CEO, and Camilo Martino was appointed as an additional independent director.[13]

In 2018, the company underwent a change in promoter shareholding. The company has announced the acquisition of four semiconductor companies, Gigacom Semiconductor LLC, California; Gigacom Semiconductor Pvt. Ltd., Visakhapatnam; FirstPass Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd, Hyderabad; and Institute of Silicon Systems Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad.[14][15] And appointed Venkata Sudhakar Simhadri as the CEO and MD of the company.[14][15]

In 2019, the company was renamed from MosChip Semiconductor Technology Limited to MosChip Technologies Limited, reflecting an expansion of its activities beyond semiconductor design into product engineering services.

In 2023, MosChip acquired Softnautics Inc., a California-based semiconductor and embedded systems engineering firm, for approximately USD 17 million.[16][17] Later that year, Srinivasa Rao Kakumanu was appointed Managing Director and CEO, succeeding Venkata Sudhakar Simhadri. Kakumanu had previously co-founded FirstPass Semiconductors prior to its acquisition by MosChip.[18][19]

In 2026, MosChip’s board approved the acquisition of 73% stake in Vayavya Labs.[20]

Business Operations

MosChip operates in semiconductor design and product engineering services. Its activities include application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design, system-on-chip (SoC) development, and embedded systems engineering.[21]

The company’s silicon engineering includes turnkey ASIC development, System-on-Chip (SoC) design, IP, and verification services. Its product engineering activities include hardware design, embedded software development, digital engineering, AI engineering, and related engineering support services.[22]

Government and Industry Initiatives

The company has participated in government-led initiatives in India’s semiconductor development policy framework. In June 2024, the company received approval under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme to develop smart energy meter integrated circuits.[23][24]

In July 2024, MosChip was announced as part of a consortium with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Socionext Inc. for the design and development of the AUM processor, an indigenous high-performance computing processor (HPC SoC) based on the ARM architecture, under India’s government semiconductor initiative.[25]
