From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mohamed Naguib Military Base is an Egyptian military base located in the city of Al-Hammam in Matrouh Governorate. It is named after Major General Mohamed Naguib, the first president of Egypt following the July 23 Revolution.[1]

The base covers an area of approximately 18,000 feddans (about 7,560 hectares or roughly 76 square kilometers), making it the largest military base in Africa and the Middle East.[2]

It was officially inaugurated on July 22, 2017, in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Khalifa Haftar, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, the Chief of General Staff of Mauritania Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed, Sheikh Mohamed Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, in addition to Ali Abdel Aal (Speaker of the House of Representatives), Sherif Ismail, and Lieutenant General Sedki Sobhi.

Facilities of the Base

The base includes 1,155 buildings and facilities, with 8 main gates and 8 internal gates for the units. It features a battalion for tank transport equipped with about 451 modern tank transporters for heavy tanks, as well as 72 fully equipped training fields, including specialized training fields, small arms shooting ranges, and a complex of electronic tactical shooting ranges.

It also contains a residential city that includes 27 rest houses dedicated to senior commanders, 14 apartment buildings for officers equipped with hotel-standard furniture, and 15 similar apartment buildings for non-commissioned officers. Additionally, two buildings have been upgraded and developed to accommodate 1,000 soldiers, along with lecture halls and training rooms.

The base has a multi-purpose conference hall that can accommodate 1,600 people, attached to a theater equipped with the latest technologies, a center for military competitions and sand table exercises, language and computer labs, and a museum dedicated to the late President Mohamed Naguib.

It also features a sports village consisting of a covered hall, an Olympic-sized football field, an officers' club and another for non-commissioned officers — both equipped with a swimming pool — plus 6 open fields, basketball, volleyball, and handball courts.

Agricultural Greenhouses

The base includes 1,302 greenhouses equipped with the latest global technologies, with each greenhouse ranging in size from 3 to 12 feddans, spread over an area of 500 feddans.
