mTrip is a Canadian travel technology company headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Founded in 2009, the company initially developed consumer travel guide applications for mobile devices before transitioning to a business-to-business platform providing white-label mobile applications and itinerary management tools to travel agencies, tour operators, and travel management companies.

History

[edit]

mTrip was founded in 2009 by Frédéric de Pardieu in Montreal, Canada. The company's early products were consumer-facing travel guide applications for iOS devices, featuring augmented reality capabilities that allowed users to explore destinations through their smartphone camera.[1]

By 2011, mTrip's travel applications had attracted coverage from North American media as a mobile alternative to traditional travel guides.[2]

In 2012, mTrip received a Webby Award in the Travel category for handheld devices.[3]

In 2014, mTrip was selected as a Phocuswright Innovator at the Phocuswright Conference, an industry recognition awarded to travel technology companies.[4]

Beginning in 2014, mTrip shifted its commercial focus from consumer applications to business-to-business services, providing white-label mobile applications to travel agencies and tour operators. Radius Travel, a corporate travel management network, selected mTrip to develop mobile app services for its corporate clients.[5]

In 2018, mTrip was acquired by MisterFly, a French online travel group that subsequently rebranded as Digitrips Group.[6]

Platform

[edit]

mTrip's platform provides travel agencies, tour operators, and travel management companies with tools to create and deliver branded travel itineraries and mobile applications. The platform includes an itinerary builder, a white-label mobile application, travel document delivery, and a duty-of-care module for corporate travel management.

The company integrates third-party travel intelligence services into its platform. mTrip partnered with Riskline to incorporate real-time travel risk alerts and location-specific advisories into client apps,[7] and with GeoSure to provide safety assessments for more than 65,000 localities worldwide to corporate travelers.[8]

In 2023, Digitrips launched an AI-powered virtual assistant built on mTrip's platform, designed to help travelers discover attractions and experiences at their destination.[9]
