GoodBarber is a French software as a service company based in Ajaccio, Corsica, that develops a no-code development platform used to build mobile applications for iOS and Android, as well as progressive web apps.[1][2]

History

[edit]

GoodBarber's origins date back to WebzineMaker, an online publishing service founded in Ajaccio in 2001 by Sébastien Simoni, which allowed users to create hosted websites and webzines without technical skills.[3] The company, later renamed WMaker, claimed more than 45,000 users in 2006.[3] In 2009, Simoni co-founded CampusPlex, a coworking space for technology companies in Ajaccio.[4][2]

GoodBarber was launched in 2011 by merging WMaker with DuoApps, a Corsican mobile application developer founded in 2009.[2][4]

The company launched a German-language version of its platform in 2014.[5] In 2015, it acquired Mougli, a London-based online booking startup that had won the Lisbon Challenge startup competition.[6] By 2016, about 12,000 applications had been built on the platform, according to Wired Italia.[7]

In 2019, GoodBarber was included in the FT 1000, the Financial Times ranking of Europe's fastest-growing companies.[8] In 2020, the company reported an annual revenue of about €4 million, with some forty employees based mainly in Ajaccio and offices in Portugal and New York.[1] As of 2023, it generated 80% of its revenue outside France and was present in 152 countries.[2]

Product

[edit]

GoodBarber's platform allows users without programming skills to build native iOS and Android applications and progressive web apps from a graphical interface, with an integrated content management system, push notifications and analytics.[7] It is sold on a subscription basis; a reseller program allows web agencies to produce white-label applications for their own clients.[1][5] Initially aimed at content publishers such as news media, bloggers and radio stations, the platform was later extended toward small merchants and e-commerce.[5][1]

In 2023, Simoni estimated the worldwide app-builder market at about 200 companies generating some US$100 million in total revenue.[2]
