  • Comment: This needs to meet the requirement to show corporate depth according to WP:SIRS and press releases aren't going to cover that. It needs a truly independent source - WSJ, FT, NYT - to delve into the company's affairs. Very few companies can do that. See the section below on corporate trivia and it's clear there that M&A activity is in that category.

Fabric is an American enterprise software company headquartered in Los Angeles, California, that provides data, metadata management, and media operations software for the entertainment industry. Its customers include studios, streaming platforms, broadcasters, and sports organizations.

History

[edit]

Founding as Meta Data Systems (2018)

[edit]

Fabric was founded in 2018 under the name Meta Data Systems, offering metadata management services for film and television content catalogs. Among its first clients were WarnerMedia, HBO, MGM, Epix, and Fox.

Rebrand to Fabric (2021)

[edit]

In late 2021, the company rebranded as Fabric. The timing coincided with Facebook's own rebrand to Meta, which had made the name Meta Data Systems untenable. CEO Rob Delf stated the new name better reflected the company's role connecting data across the media industry.[1][2]

Merger with Xytech Systems (2024)

[edit]

Xytech Systems, a broadcast software company founded in 1988, merged with Fabric in August 2024. The deal, backed by private equity firm Banneker Partners, was led by Fabric CEO Rob Delf.[3][4][5]

Acquisition of BB Media (2025)

[edit]

In early 2025, Fabric acquired BB Media, a market research company founded in 1985 that tracks streaming services, pricing models, and content catalogs across more than 200 countries. The acquisition strengthened Fabric's data offering in the global streaming market.[6][7]

Products

[edit]

Fabric's platform is organized around two product families that address different aspects of media operations.

Xytech

[edit]

Xytech is a media operations and scheduling platform for broadcast, production, sports, and live events. Xytech Media covers media lifecycle management and workflow automation; Xytech Transmission handles broadcast delivery coordination and contribution resource scheduling; and Xytech Operations manages resource scheduling, cost tracking, and invoicing. The product line traces its roots to Xytech Systems, which had operated in the broadcast industry since 1988.

Origin

[edit]

Origin covers Fabric's metadata management and market intelligence products. Origin Studio is a metadata platform for studios and distributors, built API-first and compatible with EIDR. Origin Nexus is a REST API that delivers movie and TV metadata, imagery, and trailers. Origin Insights tracks streaming services across more than 200 countries and territories, a scope that grew with the acquisition of BB Media in 2025.
