Cast
[edit]Production
[edit]In March 2016, it was announced that Deeper would be written and produced by Max Landis with Kornél Mundruczó set to direct and Bradley Cooper to star.[1] In April 2016, it was reported that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer had won distribution rights to the film.[2] In September 2017, Gal Gadot joined the cast.[3]
By October 2018, Mundeuczo, Cooper, and Gadot had dropped out and Baltasar Kormákur had signed on to direct.[4] In February 2019, Idris Elba was cast.[5] Following news of allegations of misconduct against Landis, MGM shelved production of Deeper in June 2019.[6]
In November 2024, Doug Liman was hired instead to direct with Tom Cruise on-board to star and Warner Bros. Pictures set to distribute.[7][8] In May 2025, it was revealed that Christopher McQuarrie had rewrote the script and that Ana De Armas was cast to co-star. Cruise and De Armas were in training for their roles.[9] In July, Puck News reported that Warner Brothers had dropped the film due to budgetary concerns; the studio offered a $230 million budget but the production team insisted on $275 million; the studio permitted the production team to shop the distribution rights somewhere else and Universal Pictures was in talks to acquire it.[10] By August 2025, the film was put on hold due to specific weather window needs for filming.[11] In December 2025, it was revealed that Universal passed on the film and that Cruise was still attempting to find a buyer.[12]
