Compass Self Storage, LLC is a self storage company headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. It operates more than 120 storage facilities across 15 states, namely Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. The company offers self storage units, moving and packing supplies, and truck rentals for both business and residential customers. The company is a member of Amsdell Companies, which has roots in the construction and real estate industry dating back to 1928.[1]

History

Compass Self Storage was established in 2008 as part of Amsdell Companies’ expansion into the national self storage market.[1] The company has expanded its portfolio through acquisitions and development of facilities in multiple U.S. regions, such as the acquisition of a storage facility in Westerly, Rhode Island in 2025.[2]

Compass Self Storage operates storage facilities in both metropolitan and suburban markets. The company offers a range of storage options, including climate-controlled units, drive-up units, RV storage, boat storage and business storage.[3]

Compass Self Storage has been included in industry rankings such as the Inside Self-Storage Top 20 Operators list.[4] Trade publications have also identified the company among largest operators within the self-storage industry.[5] Furthermore, Compass Self Storage was listed in regional business rankings published by Crain’s Cleveland Business.[6]

Charity Involvement

Compass Self Storage has participated in charitable initiatives, including fundraising efforts supporting Blood Cancer United, formerly known as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.[7] The company has also contributed to disaster relief efforts, such as offering free storage to individuals affected by Hurricane Helene.[8]
