Comment: This is traditionally very difficult for journalists, but they still need to meet the WP:GOLDENRULE, where someone independent of the subject writes about them in significant depth. Here the nearest we get is the Brecon and Radnor Express, which is mainly editorial, but even that has an interview within it. A subject cannot create their own notability. In addition, kindly do not use a generative AI summariser as a source. ChrysGalley (talk) 15:12, 31 May 2026 (UTC)

Catrin Nye is an award-winning investigative journalist, documentary-maker and presenter for the BBC. She works as a senior reporter in the BBC's Investigations unit, and presents investigative documentaries for BBC Panorama, including BAFTA Cymru-winning The Universal Credit Crisis. She was the presenter of the 2023 podcast A Very British Cult, which became one of Apple's most listened to podcasts of the year[1] and won bronze in the Best Documentary category of the November 2023 British Podcast Awards.[2] Her work spans a wide range of subjects, from social exploitation and financial abuse to environmental issues and the chemicals industry.
Education
[edit]Catrin Nye was born in Brecon, Wales. She attended Gwernyfed High School before going on to study at the University of Leeds.[3][4][5]
Career
[edit]In 2015, Nye became a senior reporter on the BBC Victoria Derbyshire Programme, with a focus on investigations and underrepresented communities. Her work on the programme included reporting on life inside a refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos for The Worst Refugee Camp on Earth[6][7]; speaking to a community of people in the UK who take small amounts of psychedelic drugs as part of their daily lives for Microdosing: The People Taking LSD with their Breakfast,[8] and looking into a community of young women sharing harmful content amongst one another for The Instagram Suicide Network.[9][10]
Nye from 2016 has been a presenter and reporter on BBC Panorama, presenting award-winning long-form documentaries.
Her work with the programme includes Gangs, Guns & The Police, in which Nye investigated whether the police had lost control of the streets of Salford.[11] [12] Panorama's Million Pound Selfie Sell Off looked into the use of digital influencers in the advertising industry,[13] [14] while Britain's Newest Bank: How Safe is Your Money? saw Nye investigating the stories of Revolut customers who said scammers took tens of thousands of pounds from their accounts, while Revolut failed to protect them.[15] [16] In 2025, The Truth about Baby Food Pouches exposed the worryingly low levels of essential vitamins and minerals in some plastic-pouch baby food, plus other products which contain more sugar than the NHS recommends for infants.[17] [18] [19] The Truth About Forever Chemicals looked into the hidden dangers of PFAS chemicals found in everyday items.[20] [21]
Panorama's investigation The Universal Credit Crisis, presented by Nye in 2018, explored the government's controversial new benefits system and was awarded the BAFTA Cymru News and Current Affairs award in 2019.[22] [23][24]
Nye in 2022 released a programme for BBC Three called Jobfished – the result of a year-long investigation into a glamorous fake design agency called Madbird which conned its own staff into believing it was real. Nye confronted the company's director, Ali Ayad, for his fabrication of staff members and past work.[25][26]
In April 2023, BBC Three documentary A Very British Cult was broadcast, presented by Nye, alongside a BBC podcast of the same name. The 18-month investigation found a life coaching group called Lighthouse was separating people from their loved ones, taking over their lives, and harassing its critics.[27][28][29] The podcast quickly became one of the most listened to podcasts of the year on BBC Sounds [30] and won bronze in the Best Documentary category of the November 2023 British Podcast Awards.[31]
Three members of Lighthouse in January 2026 were found guilty of harassment against Nye, and sentenced to 200 hours of community service plus a restraining order banning them from contacting or approaching Nye or her partner for a decade.[32][33]
Awards
[edit]Nye won a BAFTA Cymru in 2019 for her BBC Panorama documentary The Universal Credit Crisis..[34][35][36] Prior to this, in 2013, she was awarded Journalist of the Year by Mind, and named one of Radio Academy's 30 Under 30 in the same year.[37] She has been shortlisted for RTS Young Journalist of the Year and also shortlisted for an Amnesty International Media Award.[38] Nye was awarded two Sandford Saint Martin awards for excellence in religious broadcasting.[39]
