Charlestown is an electoral division of Manchester City Council which has been represented since 1971. It covers the North Manchester suburb of Charlestown and parts of Blackley.

Overview

[edit]

Charlestown ward was created in 1971,[1] covering the northern portions of the Blackley and Moston wards. In 1982, the ward incorporated that part of the Crumpsall ward to the northeast of the River Irk.[2] That area was returned to the Crumpsall ward after further city-wide boundary revision in 2004, which also made the ward's eastern boundary the Caldervale Line. The ward's boundaries were left largely unchanged at the latest revision in 2018.[3]

From its creation until 2010, the ward formed part of the Manchester Blackley Parliamentary constituency.[4] Between 2010 and 2024, it formed part of the Blackley and Broughton Parliamentary constituency. Since 2024, it has formed part of the Blackley and Middleton South Parliamentary constituency.
