Industry wikilinks
[edit]I feel "Travel" and "Internet" under "Industry" in the infobox should both be wikilinked (and Dot-com company probably makes sense for Internet), but Travel industry is just a redirect to Tourism -- and that doesn't seem to fit... Thoughts, anybody? --Wulf (talk) 00:45, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
I don't think they need to be wikilinked. Anyone on the internet knows what the internet is. Anyone on kayak.com's wikipedia page knows what travel is. Johnathlon (talk) 06:40, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Name
[edit]What is the correct name of the company, Kayak or Kayak.com. Both variants are used throughout the article. ehn (talk) 01:02, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
KAYAK is the correct name of the company. KAYAK.com refers to the flagship website of KAYAK. KAYAK's operations consist primarily of the flagship website KAYAK.com, which is part of a global family of websites that include kayak.co.uk, swoodoo.com, and checkfelix.com. These websites are referred to collectively as the KAYAK websites. Ehoa (talk) 21:02, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Updating Right Hand Side Info Box
[edit]Hi,
I work at KAYAK and wanted to start a discussion about updating the wiki page to reflect more current information. Also, I am a long time user of Wikipedia but a novice editor/talk page contributor so appreciate comments / advice on how to facilitate the updates by the community. Some of the revisions are just a matter of updating out-of-date information but wanted to share with the community first to avoid conflict of interest issues and find out next steps. Really appreciate your attention.
Right Hand Side Info Box

- All done. In the future, if it's just basic information like this you can go ahead and edit yourself as long as its sourced. There's only a problem if you try to insert favorable or promotional material. If there's something you're not sure about just post here. Thanks! NYyankees51 (talk) 17:46, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

- Wikipedia isn't a web directory, so your proposal to include that mess of external links won't fly. And it isn't a product brochure, so it isn't really appropriate to include the Features section unless it can be restated in prose in a non-promotional way; otherwise people would be better off finding that in other places you control. Otherwise the changes look OK. ~Anachronist (talk) 02:48, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- As Anachronist said, not a directory, not a brochure, but Awards content (except CNET) and Momondo Group announcement were added to the article. JB525 (talk) 13:12, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
Thank you Anachronist and JB525 so much for your review and guidance. We are reworking the edits to resubmit shortly for your and the editors’ consideration. - Ashleess (talk) 20:43, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks Ashleess
- Hi Ashleess, and thank you for your suggestions. I'm going to decline this edit request, for a couple of reasons:
- The "1.5 billion" stat needs to be verified by an outside source. Website traffic statistics can be very different depending on the methodology used, and if Wikipedia were to just take each website's own word for it, the encyclopedia would be comparing apples with oranges. I'd like to hear from an independent source for this figure.
- You haven't quite addressed Anachronist's concern. "Prose" means "paragraphs," and Wikipedia generally prefers paragraphs that summarize what a website does rather than listing each separate component. Your draft promotes every single one of KAYAK's features, but it could be communicated to readers in a summary without listing the business name of each features, along the lines of "KAYAK has features that allow users to search for destinations within their budget, get alerts on actual and predicted price changes, and has compatibility via Facebook and Alexa, etc." And please do properly format the external links as references. It saves a lot of time for edit request reviewers and would help your request get a faster response.
- Hope this helps. Altamel (talk) 17:57, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
Page Updates for Consideration
[edit]![]() | Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
Hi, I work for KAYAK and would like to propose the following changes to our Wikipedia page to provide a more accurate and updated description based on your feedback. Please see our suggestions below and let us know if you prefer us to make these updates directly.
Intro we've recently added three new brands (momondo, Cheapflights and Mundi) to our portfolio and would ask that they be reflected in the intro.
Comment:This information has been added to The Priceline Group article.
Features
KAYAK has features that allow users to search for destinations within their budget[1], get alerts on actual and predicted price changes[2], plan group trips using Facebook Messenger [3]and book hotel rooms using Alexa. [4]
Comment: I added some details about supported native apps to the infobox; however, the rest falls under WP:ADVERT.
International Expansion
In April 2011, KAYAK acquired Checkfelix, a travel search engine in Austria.[5]
Done The content was already present in the article; however, I made some minor changes.
IPO and Acquisition
In February 2017, Priceline announced [6] a definitive agreement to acquire the momondo Group. On July 17, 2017, EU antitrust regulators approved the acquisition. [7] The Momondo Group, which operates Momondo and Cheapflights, will roll under The Priceline Group's leading travel meta brand, KAYAK. In August 2017, KAYAK acquired the assets, including the domain and user information and the mobile apps, of the Brazilian metasearch company Mundi. [8]
Comment: This information has been added to The Priceline Group article.

Requested move 7 June 2019

Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Kayak.com → KAYAK – KAYAK is advertised as KAYAK not Kayak.com, it is just like it is Google not Google.com, thus it should be KAYAK not Kayak.com SchoolBusesC2 (talk) 01:29, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

- move to Kayak (company) - per above, and articles named for urls are abominations. -- Netoholic @ 08:15, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:ALLCAPS but would not oppose Kayak (company). Lazz_R 15:14, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:ALLCAPS and WP:TM (e.g., the SONY and TIME examples). I'm also not fond of Kayak (company), since it is not really a company, but rather a website / search engine / service. The former company was purchased by the travel search conglomerate known as The Priceline Group in 2013 (later renamed to Booking Holdings in 2018). —BarrelProof (talk) 18:09, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Requested move 24 December 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: move to Kayak (company). (closed by non-admin page mover) feminist (talk) 13:02, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
Kayak.com → KAYAK (company) – The company KAYAK is shown as "KAYAK" everywhere on their site. Also, Google is "Google" not "Google.com." And, KAYAK is not only a website SchoolBusesC2 (talk) 01:24, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
- This request to move to "KAYAK (company)" misreads the previous discussion, which already clearly determined that it would be inappropriate to use the version shown in all caps. If this were a request to Kayak (company), the evidence from the previous discussion shows it might enjoy some support. (In fact, it would probably have been better to let the previous discussion continue to its conclusion, which might have resulted in such a move at the time.) Dekimasuよ! 01:37, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
- Move to Kayak (company) per arguments given in the last RM. All-caps version is obviously not the solution, so title-casing it makes the most sense. O.N.R. (talk) 07:23, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
- Support O.N.R.'s alt proposal. Dicklyon (talk) 06:11, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
Proposed factual updates — paid contributor disclosure
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi @BlueStaticHorse - You were asigned to me as a mentor, and I was wondering if you could kindly help me edit this page?
Before anything else, I want to be transparent that I am posting on behalf of a client rather than editing the article directly, in line with WP:COI and WP:PAID. I work for a digital communications agency engaged by KAYAK to help ensure the accuracy of this article. I have disclosed this on my userpage [[1].
The proposals below should be discrete, sourced factual updates. I would welcome and really appreciate yourself or a reviewer reviewing and applying what they consider accurate, and I fully appreciate this is not a space for anything promotional.

- Discussion is a key component to implementing edits, and as a result, requests can be adversely affected when they fail to garner input from either reviewing or requesting editors. In light of this — and as a safeguard — this request has been declined as needing more discussion.[1]
- The COI editor is urged to revive stalled communications by making contact with local editors on those editor's own talk pages, and then by moving those discussions back to this talk page.
- The COI editor may also wish to broadcast requests for edits at the talk pages of the WikiProjects which give advice on this article. Those projects are usually listed at the top of an article's talk page.
