Victory or defeat?

In this edit, Srnec changed the result in the infobox from Caliphate victory to Egyptian rebels defeated, and asked for discussion on the matter, so here we are. The documentation for {{Infobox military conflict}} states that the parameters for "result" should be limited to "X victory" or "Inconclusive". In this case, the two successive caliphates succeeded in quashing the revolts, but it was the Abbasid caliphate that ultimately ended the rebellions, so the result should be "Abbasid caliphate victory". I support the idea of changing the result to "Abbasid Victory". However, there are some issues in the article. One issue I noticed is that two different figures are linked under the name "al-Kindi". one is the philosopher Yaʻqūb ibn ʼIsḥāq al-Kindi, and the other is the historian Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Kindi. the sources cited are likely referring to Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Kindi (historian). In January 2025, I said in another edit summary, complicated "results" are discouraged - even "Egyptian rebels defeated" is not recommended form - you can leave it blank if you insist. A simple "Abbasid victory" is the best alternative to the current one if we must fill the field. The field was originally The suppression of revolt and later Coptic rebels defeated but has never been in X victory format, probably because identifying the X can seem a bit tricky. What unites all these revolts is the Bashmurians, not a dynasty. Srnec (talk) 00:44, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
