Name of the article should be Notch

[edit]

According to WP:COMMONNAME it is generally preferred to use a more recognizable name then a more technically accurate name. Since Notch is more recognizable of a name then Markus Persson (seen in the own citations on this article such as "Notch on leaving Mojang: 'It's not about the money. It's about my sanity'". Polygon) I think the title of this article should be changed to reflect this Roma enjoyer (talk) 09:11, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You should try opening a formal move request. Ca talk to me! 13:02, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He literally never made a comment on social media about homosexuals. So maybe dont blantently lie in the first paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:89:C700:6CD0:49B2:C57B:636C:E6A0 (talk) 03:44, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not state your opinions under a section dedicated to an unrelated topic. This topic is related to the accuracy of the article name, and is unrelated to the contents of the first paragraph. If you have suggestions or criticism regarding the contents of the first paragraph, feel free to open a new topic to state it. Kisaragi Ayami (如月あやみ) (talk) 15:51, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy section

[edit]

A dedicated controversy section needs to be established. His comments no longer fall under “personal life” when they directly affect gameplay JointCompound (talk) 04:26, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am aware that this type of sectioning is “discouraged”, but considering the fact that his views resulted in his name being removed from the game, I would say that MORE than constitutes a controversy. JointCompound (talk) 04:30, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@JointCompound
Fully support that!
But I've never done that and am new to editing WP:BLP articles :/
What would such a new paragraph look like? TrustedTusk (talk) 01:31, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Frist draft of a new section:
Controversies
Since 2016 several of Persson's posts on Twitter regarding feminism, race, and transgender rights have caused public controversies.
He has been described as "an increasingly polarizing figure, tweeting offensive statements regarding race, the LGBTQ community, gender, and other topics." [1]
Microsoft removed mentions of his name from Minecraft (excluding one instance in the game's end credits) and did not invite him to the game's tenth anniversary celebration.[2] TrustedTusk (talk) 01:40, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In the lines "Since 2016 several of Persson's posts on Twitter regarding feminism, race, and transgender-rights issues have caused public controversies. In 2019 his posts were censured by Microsoft", it says censured instead of censored. I am requesting this to be fixed. Wononoma (talk) 03:15, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The usage of "censured" is more correct (strong disapproval or harsh criticism); Microsoft could not censor tweets. LizardJr8 (talk) 03:30, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@LizardJr8 That seems like a very uncommon phrasing to me. Might be misleading people like me, who aren't that familiar with the language :) TrustedTusk (talk) 01:35, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good point, and I'm not sure I agree with myself on that anymore. Anyway, I much prefer what has been done with the text subsequently (removing it and being more clear). LizardJr8 (talk) 02:59, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Correction on "reverse-engineering Doom"

[edit]

The article currently claims that Persson "reverse-engineered Doom", however, the source code for Doom was released as open-source in 1997. What the text in the related ref actually says is that Persson wrote a Doom clone in Dart, so that's what the article should say. ~2025-34623-63 (talk) 19:57, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Done I ended up just removing the sentence entirely. Writing a clone of an open-source program in another programming language is an academic exercise at best. The placement of the sentence was also implying that he did it as a young teenager, which... no. He was 34. ―Tosca-the-engineer (talk) 16:07, 4 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Surname pronunciation

[edit]

It needs a source. The English one, obviously. It doesn't make sense in English or Swedish. ~2026-11446-32 (talk) 15:16, 20 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Notch's title should be Founder of Bitshift Entertainment

[edit]

Since Notch has left Mojang, his title should be changed or added to. Home-436736 (talk) 19:47, 17 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
