Tanystropheus
[edit]Dennis Jay Hall: "It remained on the top of my list, until one day while browsing in Barnes and Noble on Dorset Street (in Burlington), I found a picture of a reptile called tanystropheus. I knew I had found the perfect match in both behavior and looks to the animals I have observed living and thriving in our lake." Now that's research! [1]Totnesmartin 18:56, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Incorrect photo
[edit]Photo does not show original Sandra Mansi photo
I've just removed a ton of undue emphasis on cryptozoology, an obscure pseudoscience that dominated this article. Wikipedia has straightforward policies about this stuff, namely WP:UNDUE and WP:PSEUDOSCIENCE. I've also removed a bunch of random Youtube videos being employed as sources here. In general, this article needs to be rewritten with material from secondary sources. As this is an entity form folklore and clearly fits a larger pattern in the folklore record, a rewrite leaning heavy on works by folklorists (folkloristics) would be ideal. :bloodofox: (talk) 01:18, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- I fully support your edits and agree that a rewrite leaning more toward folklore rather than cryptozoology would be ideal. I've been struggling to figure out what to do with the "possible explanations" section. Deleting it entirely works for me! One note for future edits, I do think the Mansi photograph bit should stay because it's a famous photograph that's become part of the story of Champ.Dustinlull (talk) 17:38, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Same here, an unnamed user keeps on using crap sources, re writes things i have deleted because they were not even in the source and they did not make sense oh yeah and sounded alot like cryptozoolgy propaganda. Oh and i forgot to mention uses a creationist video and Reddit as evidence. Oh yeah and i found this in a old version of the article 卐. --Bubblesorg (talk) 19:04, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
Blocked source in 2006 conversation
[edit]To whom it may concern, I was able to successfully archive most of the stale conversations from many years ago (ranging from 2006 to 2016). However, I left one conversation seen at the top of this page, entitled "Tanystropheus" by User:Totnesmartin in November 2006. The included link (zoominfo.com) triggered a protection filter due to it being on some Wikipedia blacklist, so it blocked me from creating Talk:Champ (folklore)/Archive 1. I deleted the section from the archive and re-did my edit here so the section stays intact on this talk page. I'm not sure what can be done, unless the original author removes the source so it can be published on the archive. It's not a huge deal I guess, but I wanted to reflect the scenario in this talk page. TNstingray (talk) 16:35, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
Lucy and the Lake Monster
[edit]The reference to film makers "review[ing] their drone footage" and discovering what "appears to be" a creature seems like pretty blatant attempt at marketing/hoax and does not add much to the article 2605:59C8:628E:8D10:6831:D71F:4C4C:AD70 (talk) 02:53, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
